2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

you shouldn't worry about losing anybody from that defense. we are putting effort and money into overhauling the whole defensive staff/system.......no reason to pay a kid to stay around that doesn't fit/won't play. Didn't have mind blowing production anyways. Bring in some good portal players and lets improve this defense for next year
That’s too simple a way to put it.

Jakobe Thomas according to Banks wasn’t good enough to be a starter on this defense. Yet you see what he’s doing at Miami.

They weren’t getting proper direction. The damn dude didn’t even get portal DTs last cycle ffs!

So yes, we absolutely need to keep players that wanted to play for UT, and can play for Knowles. And they are absolutely allowed to shop their value.

we could all tell that we needed to keep Thomas last year. i don't get that same feeling from anybody this year.

Agreed. He was clearly a great athlete. He covered a lot of ground and played with violence. Everyone loved him. I’m not in love with any of our current defenders. Maybe Harmon and Perlotte. That’s about it

People keep saying Herring is too small.
He’s exactly the same size as Chaz Coleman. But he’s two years older!

Herring is still a nice part to a bigger puzzle. As is Spillman, Farooq. Dye, Campbell, Perlotte and Redmond. Ross and more ALREADY ON CAMPUS.Tennessee fans are so disenchanted without stopping to consider this defense was Top 10 the previous year. DB injuries, not maximize the portal and Banks not being able to adjust in 5 season as DC is why Knowles is here.

He took the job BECAUSE of the talent that is already there. That’s what people don’t understand…

Mariyon Dye is the ideal size of DE that Knowles is gonna love. Esp in 1st and 2nd down.

Prob 265 or so currently and gonna push 270-275 next yr.

That kid is fighting to stay at 265. Can easily be a 315 DT by 2027. A 305 lbs by 2026 season and still be fast.

Weathersby is set for his weight and he really does fit what Knowles wants.

last years defense was the outlier. overall not good on that side of the ball.

unless you have legit insider knowledge, i'm buying that Knowles came here because of our current talent. we are small and slow. i have major concerns about him if that's why he is here.

i don't have a problem with Herring or any of those other guys but none of them have done enough to get to upset about them leaving.

Herrring leaving seems like he doesn't fit, they are bringing in more guys and he's scared of the competition, or wanting more money.

That would lead me to believe weathersby will be gone. Hopefully not one of Hobbs, Campbell, utley, house. Those guys can all still add some good weight.
Yea Weathersby looks like he is 240 playing SDE. First name I thought of when I read the quote. Main reason why I hoped we get a SDE out of the portal to start.

Something was up with “setting the edge”. More than size or strength. Edges were crashing. Either by design or on their own. If by design, either they were being asked to crash and be football smart and athletic enough to recover and still contain, or LBs and S were supposed to come up in run support and contain. We took ourselves out of position more than anything. Players either didn’t know what to do, or were being asked to do something they weren’t capable of, or maybe didn’t care enough.
In sets where setting the edge was required we either couldn't or didn't as you said. In instances where it was obvious we were trying, we were just too light. A lighter end isn't going to hold ground on a 300 tackle, or will more easily be redirected by a blocking back or receiver with momentum. The problem across our entire line this year was being too light all across the D line.
