I can't remember if it was the VQ or 247 podcast recently that said the staff will target a RB. I would tend to agree that it isn't a need, but it sounds like the staff wants one. I'll say we're pursuing:

So 9 incoming from the portal as of now, unless we lose some others we were counting on and need to replace.

Haven't read up on Knowles and his defense so not sure of the particulars of it. I know we need better players in the secondary and depth on the DL. But I have no idea how he uses his secondary or LBs to know what he might look for in the portal. I mean, like Star was a Banks thing. Not sure if Knowles incorporates something similar or not. New DC with a new scheme and new terminology. Knowles needs a blank check to work the portal for guys that will fit his system and run it the way he wants.

Defense and QB are our needs atm. Anything else is based on players leaving when the portal opens. Or unsuspected NFL declarations.

With Deboer seemingly off the board and Dillingham signing an extension this morning I’m not sure where Michigan turns. But I’d be tampering their roster like a MF.

Maybe the staff is expecting to lose a RB to the portal? No idea on that. But unless that happens, it's not a priority. And personally, I would hope for a little more on defense than what you have listed. We need some depth.

I believe it was AP on 99.1 earlier in the week that said he'd be surprised if we have under 10 come in. Where those positions numbers go idk.

They need to go to collective bargaining and be done with it. That’s the solution, and that’s where it will end up once the NCAA finally kicks the can. Multi-year contracts will keep players at one spot their entire college career.

Transfer will absolutely still happen but a CBA would curb it significantly once rate of pay is more of a set figure

Can’t remember where but I read somewhere the average player in the top 300 transfers on 247/on3 are tripling their income at the new school so if I am an athlete that just had a big year I’m asking for somewhere in that ballpark to stay. It just is what it is sorry I want to be paid my market value

Can’t blame them really as long as they’re operating on one year deals.

I would push for more but also be cautious about leaving. There could be more long term value in returning to a system you know that is producing draft picks.

I hope you’re right. I really like everything about Joey. He could be incredible in year 2 and he’s just such a good teammate and representative of Tennessee. Hard to believe any transfer could be as effective as Joey. With our schedule we need someone ready to roll game 1.
