2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Throwing for 4100 yards isn't Meh, I don't care what competition you're playing against. The NT kid is a beast. He's not my first choice, but we could do a lot worse. If Heupel thought the young guys would be ready, he wouldn't be going big on a transfer QB. Regardless of who we get, he's sending a clear message that neither will be starting next year unless injuries dictate it
I agree with you about our QBs

Too many good secondary guys already announcing to the portal- we don’t grab upgrades, then we aren’t serious about winning- now that we have Knowles, I hope things change…
We better pay up for a great 1 yr rental at QB as well…

I wouldn't expect Tennessee to sign a portal QB with more than 1 year of eligibility remaining because they're going to want to hand the reigns to Faizon or GMac in 2027. And you don't want to run them off by sending the message that they'll have to sit for more than 1 season. That's why Byrum Brown or Sorsby makes sense. Was kinda hoping Texas Tech would go get Leavitt so we can get Sorsby.

Now if the portal guy is just a depth piece, that changes things.
I wouldnt pay $4MM for any of those QBs. I would like Brown but not at that number.

I'm in the minority camp that's cool with getting a FCS QB and allowing him to compete with the young guys. Would rather spend that money beefing up the team around the QB.

Only a few guys I would pay $4MM for. Mensah is one of them.

So basically we get nobody. That would be fantastic.
If Austin Price says we are involved with Sorsby and Leavitt like he said last night then I am going to assume we are heavily involved. Heupel isn’t dumb. He knows how important this offseason is for his tenure here. He knows he has to knock it out of the park to give him the team possible next season.

I certainly hope you are right

they need to take 8-10 just on the defensive side if they don't want to handcuff what Knowles wants to accomplish.

And will need offensive help at RB, OL and maybe WR.

Loss of returning players is a concern due to budget. example, we could give Sanders a 1.5 million for 26 and Ohio State come in a week later and give him 2 million. Could we respond? Unknown but sure Heuple has idea one way or the other.

Very excellent summation Sandman...

BTW, AP said last night he isn't expect JA to get back.. We will see as all of this is really dynamic.
Preciate the recognition ✊

Sheeeeit we might take 8-10 DBs alone the more I think of it. Next year we bring back Farooq, Rickey Gibson, Redmond and an otherwise collection of redshirt freshmen….

With Knowles now if he brings in 8-10 guys do we see an equal number transfer out or does his defense require more players by nature of its multitudeness? (Yes I just made this word up and I’m proud of it). I guess I’m leaning towards lots of roster action both in and out there, especially depending on who he retains or not of current staff.

I’m starting to think most likely scenario at qb is bring in an experienced guy to be in the room but is really just a backup plan. Merk transfers out and GMac is the guy.

That’s a sobering thought about sanders. Hopefully he doesn’t hold Heup hostage. And we didn’t get enough of him this year already. He’s a need. Especially if heard goes pro.

Any idea who you see playing the Knowles LEO?

Nope to last question.

We have had just about all our players fielding offers all fall. I’m anxious to see who stays and who goes. Many feel not too many leave but I don’t know how anyone predicts portal.

Roster goes to 105 but I doubt we get close. Just don’t have the money to pay everyone and as we have said, need a lot of portal help. They are after sorsby or leavitt but I don’t see him paying what they demand. Probably end up Mac competing with lower level guy. We will see.

Sanders just an example. We got several players that could be getting big bucks to leave. Hope not.

Keep up the good work. Will check it often

Knowles is watching the bowl practices, and will watch the bowl game to evaluate players and potential needs within his system. I have no doubt he was promised the resources and NIL dollars to address needs in the portal.

I dont expect slow playing, I expect them to identify and address needs, we won't go outrageous and overpay stupid dollars, we'll be strategic in identifying and quickly securing players that we need and want to be here.
