2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Does a world exist where we would consider Lagway? I know that I’ll catch heat for that question, but he might just need a change of scenery . I don’t think he’s nearly as bad as everyone is going to tell me he is
The “Many Worlds” theory of Quantum Physics says yes, but I haven’t heard anyone in the program suggest Lagway. It’s possible. I just haven’t heard anything.

This is exactly my point. Heupel works wonders with QBs. I think he could make Lagway into a stud by fixing the issues that plague him. I just don’t get why we didn’t at least speak with him or get a visit.
If he works wonders with QBs, then why don't we give him the opportunity to work wonders with our highly rated QBs?

He will. There was an open competition last year. There will be another one this year. We need a third guy. You cant get by with two. I am a big believer in GMac and BF. We still need a third guy to get through practice and a season.

No team will ever do well with their third string QB but we had a 4th string last year and the roster doesn't load yet for 2026, his name is Mason Phillips. We don't know what the plan is but our top two QB's have as much potential as most if not all top two on other teams. Imagine you run the team ( god help us, regardless of what you may think), you want to build a team for the playoffs and unlike some of you believe you don't have a trillion dollars, you have a set amount. Can you build a better team by having the top three QB's in the league and paying them as such OR will you try to allocate the money a little more evenly to insure you have quality all around? This is how most NFL teams do it, now some may be better than others but NO team spends big dollars on their third string QB EVER. In fact they have a 17 game season and most teams have only two QB's on their roster, they usually have a QB on their practice squad but those can be poached by any team as long as they are added to the 53 man roster. Some on here seem to bitch no matter what the coach does, none of us know the criteria the staff is working with and as Americans we all seem to believe money doesn't matter as long as it's not ours SPEND, SPEND, SPEND. The best thing I can say to those people is maybe it's time to find a team that does things your way, maybe Texas Tech or Miami and enjoy life, but unless you are completely informed of the situations you know nothing, but you obviously love to bitch. Life's too short.

That’s what everyone keeps saying but they are all dragging their feet and not taking action. I’ll believe it whenever I see it.
Yup. Universities want no part of that. The amount of planning, wrangling and work to get us to that point will be through the roof. Then the part that will be the biggest headache will be that bargaining....and the inevitable strikes, loss of revenue, TV contracts. Sheese. Makes my head hurt just considering what lies beneath the tip of this iceberg.

Didn't he sign with Baylor a while back?

Because his "wonders" happen with guys someone else evaluated and signed. His choices haven't fared so well. Yeah, that's just a coincidence.

Welp it’s a new day with new hope. Taking the boys to Monster Jam in Bridgestone, so the transfer portal can’t take my joy today!

Don't worry, disappointment knows no time limit lol.

I'm with you, I'm cautiously optimistic for some good news today. Maybe Heupel will take pity on us and have someone announce if the basketball team loses to Kentucky 😆

That's not UT's "strategy" because we don't need 10-12 more players, but it's entirely possible that there are some players on those teams who have been back-channeled and UT will use to address needs after they enter.

I kind of doubt one is a QB, though. I personally think we have our QBs for 2026.
Going into 2026 with only 2 QBs, both with virtually zero experience, is grossly irresponsible and a total mismanagement of the roster in this day and age. I just don't see how else to spin that. Maybe they are hoping Joey gets a favorable ruling, but hope isn't a plan, IMO.

Disclaimer: I'm not suggesting you believe it is a good idea/strategy, either.

We’re going into the 2026 season with 2 scholarship QBs and a walkon. The two scholarship QBs are a RSFr. and a true freshman.

We went into the 2024 season with 2 scholarship QBs and a walkon. The two scholarship QBs were a RSFr. and a true freshman.

No one was calling it irresponsible in 2024. No one was worried about getting another QB in the portal.

The staff knows what they have. We don’t.

Kind of surprised yet relieved guys like Gage Ginther and Jeremias Heard didn't hit the portal. I really liked both of their potential when we signed them so hopefully they've been using the past few seasons to get developed and can contribute some this coming season.

Heard seems like an ideal swing tackle with his size and athleticism. Ginther just sounds like a bad arse guard name.

Biggest difference is we had legit gorillas on the OL in 2024. We were also like 3 deep on the entire DL.

We don’t have that this year.

Heard: Gorilla
Karic: Gorilla
Cooper: Toy Gorilla
Spraggins: Ate the Gorilla
Campbell: Gorilla

Bailey / West
Thomas / Simmons
Eason / Lott / Hobbs
Pearce / Josephs / Herring

We never had gorillas on the 2024 OL. Cade is beloved but he was always undersized and an overachiever. Spraggins never lived up to the hype post sophmore year. I don't even remember who our RT was but IIRC they were cheeks. Was it John Campbell? Heard was inconsistent and largely terrible at LT.

That OL was another Elerbe special. Theres a reason none of them are in the league and it isn't because the NFL doesn't draft gorillas.

A lot of us thought it was risky then too. I know what they have: not enough experience at QB. You are too prickly for a Saturday. Can’t you aim some of your missed nap fussiness at hating Kentucky?
