2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

The best AD we've had in a long time bar was set pretty low to begin with, but
if you don't find his public behavior troubling over the last few weeks, then you just don't want to see it.

Negatively interacting with fans on social media...bad look.

Blaming other teams for cheating while we "play by the rules"...bad look.

Basically conceding the 2026 season because "we play by the rules"...bad look.

And I'd ask you, outside of effectively pricing the average fan out of Tennessee sports, what has he done as an AD that has impressed you? Serious question. Josh Heupel has been good, not great. Kim Caldwell has been OK. Josh Elander, we will see...too early to know. Those are his three big hires, so far. One (Heupel) was a layup given their connections and our desperation. Elander was already here. Caldwell is the only one he's really had to search for and she hasn't lit the world on fire.

I know we are supposed to be overly impressed because he's the highest paid AD in the country, but outside of fundraising at the fans' expense, I don't know what he's done from an administrative standpoint to deserve your admiration.
I’m not sure I understand this line of thinking. Kim Caldwell exceeded expectations last year and playing this year with some youth and still ranked.

It doesn’t really matter if Heupel was an easy hire- he made it.

Danny White was praised for his hires before coming to UT…by UT fans. Now, after two straight Elite Eights in men’s, a SS in the first year in women’s, and 2 years removed from a football playoff and baseball title, we are suddenly questioning him?

Fans are fickle, and this is only being discussed right now because of losing to Vandy in football and not getting a QB during a 2 week portal window. Bottom line. I shouldn’t be surprised at the reactions, but…it’s crazy to me. We’ve been at the forefront of a bunch of things with DW at UT. Bumps in the road.

My son is now 20. Even the Butch years and Dooley crap, I was with him. 4 hours is tough and I’m getting old and the traffic making it 2 to 2 and a half hours each way is getting hard. This portal crap makes it worse. Not sure how old your kids are but I know I would not trade Vol watching with my son for much of anything. Now, it’s not always he and I and his GF just got accepted and is trying for Pride of the Southland. No more complete days of just him and me. Dang, portal and him growing up, it just all sucks.
I was there all through the crap years, because I love watching my Vols in person at the best stadium. My goal was always to teach my son and now my grandchildren to appreciate and enjoy being fans. Mission accomplished, (except my grand daughter, she doesn’t care for college football 😒). I’m still working on her (though she’s a newly wed and has her mind on other things). Double 😒😒.

What the legalities of leaking contractual information when you’re a state employee? I know the contracts are technically with private entities, but it still seems like there would be some legal ramifications for it

Not going to argue over where people place value on Danny White's achievements. I have my own opinion on his impacts. Not all of it is bad, but not all of it is good, and IMO, he is just way out of touch with the average fan.

Just curious though, what were the one or two places that didn't improve after White took over? Because hes only been AD at two other places, so that wouldn't be a very good track record.
I was stating that every Tennessee program improved except a couple.
Here is an example: I picked what I considered the big sports… football, basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and women’s softball at his three AD jobs.
Football. Before DW. with DW
Tenn. 52%. 71%. a new years 6 bowl and PO
UCF. 60%. 70% undefeated season
Buff. 28%. 47% Lance Leopold

Basketball
Tenn. 67%. 1 SS 71% 1 SS 2 EE
UCF. 47%. 63%
Buff. 55%. 64%. Nate Oats

Women’s basketball
Tenn. 66%. 70%
UCF. 34%. 69%
Buff. 39%. 58%

Baseball
Tenn. 55%. 77% world series champs
UCF. 59%. 58%
Buff. 36%. 44%

women’s softball
Tenn. 76%. 76% 2 SEC Ch 1 semis
UCF. 70%. 60%
Buff. 32%. 39%

Almost every single program had a better winning % with white than before him. Has he been perfect at Tennessee? No but I don’t think you can find the perfect AD. How can he not relate to the average fan?

Last week, I envisioned this Friday buzzing with activity. Some highs, some lows. Some hits, some misses. But activity, nonetheless.

Now that it’s here, there seems to be nothing going on at all.
I'm glad there's no Tennessee news as this is the last day players can ENTER the portal.

No disrespect to gmac-he will be a good qb for us, but he is no where near ready physically. Sure, theres a whole offseason, but the plan was never to have gmac be the starter next year

Lets just call it what it is-we put all our eggs in one basket and we missed and did not have a backup plan
Then he needs to use the offseason to get ready physically. He’s got about 8 months til kickoff.
