2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Chuckling at the suggestion that Heupel 1) has no plan for QB, or 2) that he would choose someone he didn't believe he could make successful. All he's done is field successful offenses. Everywhere.
This! I think it is very clear we are waiting on the ruling for Joey. I think it is also very clear that if Joey gets another year, he will be at Tennessee no matter what. We would be way more aggressive in the portal at that position and pushing for a commitment after we found out Ty was going to the NFL. No way we would be this lackadaisical.

Well, you might want to look up where they’ve played in their career.

All I’m saying is they have the ability to play anywhere in the secondary.

I’m not a lover of Redmond like a majority of people are, he’s a solid ass player, but if you can take both, you take both.
You're "looking up" things. I've seen him play (I've also seen Moss play a lot because wife's family are KStaters...he's very good). Aguero is not a CB. Ty Redmnond is. And Redmond is already a good one who's going to be at another level next year. If he went into the portal right now, he'd be one of the top 3 rated CBs, if not #1. You saying you don't like Redmond and thinking that Aguero can be an outside CB is an admission, whether you realize it or not.

Don't get me wrong, I want Aguero. As a Safety. So yes, take him. But suggesting that he start at CB tells me you haven't watched him play or you don't understand the difference between an outside CB's skillset and that of a Safety or NB.

In fact, this conversation is a bit nonsensical. Happy Saturday!

Nooooooo, I’ve seen these kids play their entire college careers…I also happened to look up videos on them both.

You can also look at their bios on the schools website, which tells you where they played at.

Again, if we can get both, you take both. If you happen to get both, I don’t think he sees the field. Jmo

If you get both, figure it out.

Damn, it’s Saturday…..I have to work

Midol. Now.

We’re doing amazing things with the defensive side of things, but I’m a bit worried about the offensive side of the ball. The QB position worries me the most, as I’m just not sold on the kid from Mizzou.

Outliers will always be present. How many times has that happened?
When it was pointed out that Clemson's NCs resulted from recruiting classes that were just outside the top 10 (not top 5), that was called an outlier. Then when Michigan won the NC with the same level of classes (maybe even a little lower ranked) and their talent composite ranking was around 12th, that was called an outlier. Now IU is doing it with classes not ranked in the top 30 and that's an outlier. The outliers are moving further and further out.

The game of talent acquisition has changed with the portal and the ability to pay players. While IU's roster and success may be called an outlier in the moment, it can also be called a harbinger of things to come. Schools are going to focus less on spending big for highly ranked high school classes and instead focus on getting older, developed players from the portal. It's just the smarter play. IU's average age is 23. They're putting men (both physically and maturity-wise) on the field against boys. Why spend a bunch of money on a 4-5* high school kid who may not start until his 2nd or 3rd season, then transfers before doing so? See: Ross, Jordan.

Fortunately, Tennessee seems to be moving more towards that approach this cycle (not that our recruiting class wasn't good...it certainly was). I don't know if that's a Heupel decision, Knowles' influence, or some of both, but bringing guys like Campbell in from the portal is a move in that direction. We should be an older, more seasoned team going into 2026 than we were going into 2025.

I'm not suggesting we abandon the high school route. I love getting Faizon and Keys and hope we get DGG. But I do think there will be more of a focus on the portal for successful programs, which results in lower ranked high school classes (due to less investment)...and those programs will still be successful in spite of those lower ranked classes and because of the emphasis on the portal.

Yep, your kind hold the keys to his kingdom. As they say, the wheels of the legal system grind.....just grind. Yeah...took some liberties with that saying. No offense. 😏
I accept monetary tributes in exchange for the kingdom's favor. Bring me your gold.

Hard to build depth these days, but UT had better load up wherever they can, but especially the secondary. This is UT...injuries always come where we can least afford them. How many times does a team lose not one but BOTH starting corners before a single game is in the books? Yeah take as many as we can afford and convince to sign.

I agree that you take both. Absolutely.

So, if we land Lane and that uga safety our db’s should be set. Let’s land a couple of DE’s and another DT, preferably experienced guys, and our defense should be set

Speaking of which, what other DL/DE are we after besides Coleman?
