I don’t think they will fire him. I just don’t think they will let him coach the playoff game if he hasn’t given them the “I’m staying” answer. Ole Miss would be foolish to let him coach if he’s in advanced talks with another school after the regular season ends.

He's gone if they tried that but more importantly, they will see a mass dash to the portal after a move like that.

You’re not letting your coach take another job AND letting that coach also coach the team they are leaving in the postseason.

He won't take another job before the season is over. Even Kiffin has more class than that and if he DID officially take another job, I agree that he shouldn't and won't coach another game at Ole Miss.

Ole Miss has no cards though to keep him from doing exactly what he is doing to vet other schools, openly look around, etc without actually taking a job.

If they "suspend" him from coaching while they're in the CFP hunt, they have no chance of holding the locker room together during whatever run they might have in the CFP.

It's classless by Kiffin but that's the guy they hired and they knew it when they hired him.

He's only saying that now because the difference in money between Ole Miss and LSU/UF is nowhere near as big as it used to be. If he was making $3m/year in Oxford and LSU/UF were going to pay 3-4x that, he'd leave Oxford so fast it would make your head spin.

Yeah, I am sure there are way more important things to Lane Kiffin than money, but he isn't exactly donating a large portion of his paycheck to the less-fortunate. Come on.

I may have overestimated Kiffin's class.

There's no way Ole Miss could allow him to stay if he takes an SEC head coaching job before the season is over. There should be no way another school allows him to continue to work at Ole Miss after signing with them.

You're likely correct, however, that I've overestimated the class of Kiffin and the SEC schools in general.

I wouldn't say that.

Florida or LSU has to make the bet that they are willing to wait until January to officially hire him.

If you are both schools who do that, you have be willing to bet you are going to land him or else you are royally screwed and behind the 8 ball in the hiring cycle going into the new year without a coach.

The other issue is if they do have a lead to hire him, you do not let him coach the postseason as you have to have the new staff in palce to start recruiting right away as soon as the regular season is over. You can't allow Lane to coach Ole Miss in the postseason if you (florida or LSU) have hired him before December.

I personally believe Lane is staying put and is just toying with LSU and Florida. I also have some disbelief that his family actually went to Gainesville and Baton Rouge. There would be photos blowing up of them on campus.

That distant photo from outside the airport ramp is hardly definitive evidence of his family

Also, I think either LSU or UF (or both) is going to miss the boat on a very good coach in Jon Sumral, who I think it Auburn's top choice.

Right. I also refuse he's going to be willing to uproot a very stable situation with his son being a starter going forward hsi last 2 years of high school ball under Coach Cut's son.

The family trip is reported by a lot of news organizations. Did it happen? I think you're right that it's hard to hide and I think I'm right that there's a lot of media coverage saying it did because it's hard to hide.

If Lane is playing games and staying, it's a dangerous game because he's putting the "is he leaving" idea in the mind of his recruits and portal prospects. He's even putting it in the mind of his current players who can look at the portal.

I think the possibility Lane has a non legally binding, nodding agreement with LSU or FL before January is real. Over the years we've seen lots of coaches deny they were leaving only to leave the next morning. I think it's too coincidental to think all of them decided overnight.

What Kiffin does isn't my concern, really, and him jerking everyone around is just him flexing his massive narcissism again. As long as he doesn't tour UT, I'm just here with popcorn and pretzel sticks to watch the show.

Anyone who is jerking around FL this week and potentially distracting them is a guy I want to buy a beer and egg on.

Until he comes out and says he is leaving Ole Miss, I don't think its hurting recruiting because there is not official binding time period between now and the signing period. I fully support Lane dragging them along

He did take the job at FAU while still the OC. Saban let him stay on until Kiffin missed a media event for the National Title game bc he was shopping for a new house in Boca. Saban decided that Kiffin was no longer invested enough and cut him loose.
