2025/2026 Coaching Carousel

But to someone’s earlier post, Kiffin and maybe Drink mitigate the admin issues because they’ll have style football that will be exciting compared to what they’ve had. Freeze just loses in a new painstaking fashion every week
He used to be able to coach that way and put that excitement on the field. Guess he lost that touch with his personal implosion at Ole Miss.

Did your boosters just not like Pittman or something? I thought he was a very well-liked guy. As you said it is interesting that they open their wallets for Cal.
Everyone loved him as a person just didn’t have much confidence in his coaching ability. He was always meant to be a bridge guy and obviously he didn’t have near the resume or panache as someone like Cal (who was also best friends with John Tyson). Pittman saying things like “I didn’t know what to do” in press conferences didn’t really help either.

Maybe if does not need saying, but anyone that thinks the UF job comes with an Admin Dumpster Fire and Auburn does not.....well maybe more of a major booster dumpter fire....but all in the same bucket. Freeze's struggles there are not 100% of his own doing. He'd have had a far happier life living at Liberty a little longer. The only reason any coach would give AU or UF a shot is to get that life changing buyout package lined up cause they know they'll be done in 3 when they get there.
You're absolutely right. I know there are plenty of legit criticisms we have with Tennessee but look around the country. There are some really bad programs with entrenched ADs who are so corrupt no one wants to fire them because everyone is suckling from that tit.

Head on over to the Baseball Forum for today's VN explosion. I'm an open minded 50/50 on that situation I suppose.

Gator fans seriously saw this quote from Lane Kiffin and their interpretation was he's going to be the next head coach at Florida.

'I'm never going to make decisions based on money, I'm going to make decisions based on everyday happiness.'

They are the most delusional fan base in the country. Their delusion is worse than Vandy fans pre-Clark Lea. At least Vandy beat Tennessee every once in awhile. Lane Kiffin is never going to coach at Florida.

Lane has finally matured and the fact he and Layla are now living in same city with his kids in an entrenched environment and community is not gonna be easily uprooted by money.

I really could see Lane staying put at Ole Miss until Knox goes to college.

There is definitely no downside for Lane to treat Ole Miss like Petersen did Boise State.

They are literally a defensive front 7 away from being a complete program.

What most are saying is that even if all things were equal between the Ole Miss and Florida job, (and they aren't) it wouldn't make sense for Lane to make the move. He's already got a job where they are investing at a top 5 level in terms of spending for a roster and he only has to win 7 regular season games every year to get an automatic rollover of his contract. Florida won't be able to give him anything Ole Miss won't match.

Florida fans are convinced of their own superiority, but unfortunately for them, the rest of us have perspective.

Correct. On one hand, there is no guarantee they are gonna actually make a huge hire that isn’t the same ole same ole.

On the other hand, they could finally turn the corner on making weak hires and are ready to “buy” their homerun hire.

It’s gonna be funny when they wind up hiring Drink and everyone feels like it’s Napier 2.0

Lane sits pat, for now. He has everything he needs to win at Ole Miss, including a strong NIL budget. I also think he wants to prove he can win big there, which will drive his price up when he is finally on the market again.

Here comes the fun part: I think he is waiting on either the Bama or UT job to open up again. And he will jump at the first one that does.

JMO, and as you all know…I’m wrong a lot.

I personally hope he drags Auburn, Florida, and LSU along and force them to hire someone less splashy or wait until January to even have a talk with him only for him to stay put.

The knock on Ole Miss is they are too small to contend. Well he’s gonna have a chance to prove that narrative wrong.

I'm gonna hope that when you say UT-in this case you are referring to that school that uses the wrong shade of orange?

Lane will never again be allowed to have any fingerprints on the football team in Knoxville. Powers far greater than you and I decided that a long time ago

Scarily enough though, I could easily see Sark getting the hint to move along and Lane moving to Austin

I think Lane wants to…and would…return to Knoxville. And while I personally am dead-set against it, as are at least a portion of the powers that be at UT, if he ends up being a perennial playoff coach at Ole Miss and the UT job comes open in a few years (or less), it’s safe to say that there would be those who would be open to his return. Winning consistently cures a lot of ills, including hurt feelings.

Lane wants to go to Alabama. He has the snark and charisma of Saban and they'll eat that up in Tuscaloosa eventually. He'll wait until expectations are for someone to "being them back" and the post-Saban expectations are pretty well gone.

Anyone else that hires him, only rents him until the call comes.

James Franklin going to simple route and coaching Virginia Tech. That takes a solid hire off the board for the Florida, Auburn, and LSU's of the world.

They now have to be all in on Lane or Drink. After those 2, it is all mid major guys lol.

I heard RJ Young talking today that Ole Miss gave Lane an ultimatum of they wanna know what he is gonna do by the egg bowl. I think he said they also gave him a $ number for a contract extension, but I may have misunderstood.

Yo, won't it be hilarious if Virginia Tech makes a better hire than Florida?

Bad thing is VT doesn’t play anywhere near as difficult of a schedule as whom ever takes over at UF. So it’s gonna look like VT made the better hire anyway more than likely.

Or else what? Ole Miss isn't going to fire Lane Kiffin so their "ultimatum" is like being held at Nerf gunpoint by a 7yo.

I don’t expect it to come to it but I could see Ole Miss not letting him coach the playoff game if he hasn’t given them an answer or signed the extension on his desk by time conference championship week rolls around.

And lose every player in the locker room. They are going to the CFP, in part, because of Kiffin's coaching and certainly because of his use of the portal and recruiting.

Canning him before the CFP is craziness.
