It didn’t work when they went after a then current head coach eitherVa Tech will likely look for a current head coach. They went coordinator last time with Pry, and that didn’t work out too well. I don’t know why any coach, coordinator or current HC, would touch UCLA at the moment. There’s basically zero institutional support for football.
Va Tech doesn't have the pockets for NIL, either. There's a little bit of a false narrative I think around how their program has performed post-Beamer. They actually started regressing the last 4 years that Beamer was there, not after. Beamer went 29-23 (16-16) his last 4 seasons, never finished in the top 25. Then they actually improved during Fuente's first 2 seasons (had 2 9-win regular seasons, finished ranked) before slipping again and they've been bad ever since.
I think it is possible that the NIL era isn't beneficial for them. Beamer had good players over the years but he never consistently had elite classes and was kind of a developmental coach. There are good players in Virginia, but other schools with more resources come in and raid that state.

I think it comes down to expectations with them.VT needs to increase their spending. Thoughts on Jimbo Fisher? He can recruit, he's from WV (not too far away from Blacksburg) and they can probably get him at a good salary since the aggies are still paying his buyout.
Tony Elliott with the 3rd best odds is wild. His buyout is low, but 6-6 gets him another year. Hell 5-7 may be good enough because UVA doesn’t even have a President at the moment.Next CFB coach fired

Since there isn’t a clause requiring him to seek employment, if I was in his shoes I’d definitely never coach again at the college level. He’s 59 years old, so old enough to retire with that kind of money and young enough still to enjoy retirement.Nope. He has zero incentive to get another job. There was no offset clause in that thing. I would be stunned if he's working anywhere ever again unless he gets bored and wants to call plays for a HS team or something.
You, me, and 99.9% of the population. However a lot of these guys are crazy and need to be "doing something." Even still I can't imagine him being a head coach again though.Since there isn’t a clause requiring him to seek employment, if I was in his shoes I’d definitely never coach again at the college level. Tech was paying Pry 4.75 million a year to be horrible. Clark Lea made a little over 3 mil last year.
