“I’m already planning on adjusting some. Do I want to play fast? Yes. Do I want to press? Yes. But you also have to take into account the players on your roster and what they can do,” Stephens said. “It’s whatever is going to be successful. Especially year one, you have to do that.

“I am married to a specific style of play and basketball philosophy when it comes to winning the possession battle and playing fast, downhill and in open space. I do believe in that brand of basketball wholeheartedly.”
That sounds hopeful. Where did she say that? I’m assuming it is older since she’s referred to as Stephens and not Caldwell

I watched the video on here that someone pasted so that’s information since it’s an actual game. Now maybe I could watch a few games and see how it plays out but I didn’t like what I saw so far. What will help is when Jewel talks with the coach, if she leaves that will tell me what I need to know about the system.
From a 20 year old girl??

Maybe with this style....evaluation is more important than recruitment. Meaning, maybe its about getting the right players that aren't the 5* types, than getting the highest rated girls.

In a way, this is a moneyball approach. She doesn't need the best players. She needs the right ones. And we may all disagree about what that looks like. But....I really think if she can get 12-14 girls who will come in and run their rears off, play suffocating defense, and hit a few shots, we are gonna wear some teams down. That's essentially a no huddle offense in basketball.
I agree. Good analogy.

Friend I’m trying my hardest to jump on board. I really am! I canceled my flight to Brooklyn in December because I’m just not sold yet. @Amb3096 I was looking forward to us meeting! 🥲😩. I really hope she implements her style of play and it’s successful, but like many have said before, it’s been tried and it’s not been THAT successful.

On the recruiting note….don't even get me started! 🥹 let’s just hope she retains Sam and steals a couple of LEGIT portal players. Hold my hand friend! 😩🥹🥲😂
Oddly, I think things will be ok. Literally the first time I’m feeling optimistic about the LVs since probably 2014 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Best case is she either stays out west or goes to UConn. You do not want her going to SC or LSU.
She’s a design engineering major, so I’d look to schools that either have strong programs in that field or that have strong Honors Colleges that might allow her to create that degree. SC did that for Joyce Edwards with environmental engineering.

I had to laugh at the notion of Rickea being subbed for every 2 mins. Her head would literally explode. I've never seen a player who hated coming out more, except maybe at the very end of blow outs.

IMO limited mins is going to be a big recruiting problem. Conflicting stories here whether there are actual 5 out 5 in subs, but most liberal accounts say it's every 3-4 min subs. And most telling, Marshall only had one player who average 30 mins. For many elite players, and most certainly for Ms RIckea Jackson, that won't be enough. Rythmn was a big part of her game.

No one on this board is in charge of nor capable of giving chances. We can talk ourselves blue in the virtual face, but no one else cares.

That's just not true. Did you watch KJH post game pressers? She talked often and at length what a great and special player RJ was. Talked about how sometimes she caught herself just watching her. Mentioned often how high the standard for RJ was, and how a bad game for her was a career game for others. Made a point in the presser right after the AA snub to say Rickea is an All American and most definitely one of the top ten players in the country. Talked quite movingly in the last presser about how lucky she was to have coached a player like that.
UT only had 1 average 30 min also.

Yeah, I kinda mocked UConn and LSU for riding their starting five so hard, but their fitness and cohesion in the tournament was something to behold.
Yeah that is what never made sense to me. Their players could be out there the whole time while ours needed breathers. I hope we are getting a brand new sc program.

We all will be watching, some of us will have no expectations.
Most of us are Lady Vols fans and support the University Of Tennessee and the teams they field. Why don't you become a fan before you try to tear down the decisions of the University and the Athletic Department? The new coach has the best track record of any who expressed interest in the position.

Nothing wrong with the system except for the platoon playing time, Jewel wants to be a pro and she will want the mins on the floor to showcase her skills. If Jewel decides to stay after their meeting, I guess that means the coach is will to give her the mins she wants, otherwise she’s gone.
One would think that Jewel would want to play for a team which can represent the talents of its players, win basketball games, and win Championships. The previous two coaches have proven they could not do that. This new coach has proven that she can win games and win championships. One would think that she stands a better chance of success with the support of her fans and teammates. Try it. You might like it.

You would think she would like a team that might put up 30 threes a game.

We have so many gloom and doom people on here. I think I'm gonna see how Caldwell does first. What we have had last 5 years has not worked well. We got a little worse each year. Caldwell will play the best players she has the most. Players want to play fast, always have, always will. Any defense we will play will be an improvement over last few years defense because we gave up more easy shots than any team I've ever seen and I have watched Lady Vols since early 80's.

I would expect Stanford to be losing a player or two ....
Possibly. But probably not because Tara has retired -- Kate Paye is equally loved there -- but I'd guess because of the increased stress of all the extra crazy travel and time away from campus the conference realignment will cause. The women who go to Stanford are really, REALLY up against it academically. I've always marveled over the fact that that program has remained Top 10 all these years what with all the pressures the players are under off the court. But now, playing at Stanford is gonna get even tougher. 😲

That’s simply not true. We got better from Holly’s last year (7 conference wins) to KJH’s 10, 9 (Covid so 3 less games), 11, 13, and then back to 10 in her worst season. We clearly got better 4 consecutive years with a down year this year at 20 wins.
