I get your idea that it’s best to move away from the old staff, but under the time restraints and the fact that CKC probably doesn’t have existing relationships with top tier assistant coaches, at least keeping Sam makes sense. What I really don’t want again is bringing the whole gang from a midmajor with the coach. She HAS to have someone with relationships to the types of players we need here. Unless Danny has already hired her assistants for her, finding and interviewing assistant coaches is going to take time that could be devoted to portal players and 2025 recruits. If we weren’t under a month away from the portal closing, it would be a lot easier.Noooo I hate this so much
All the assistants should be let go. A new head coach, especially one with a lot to prove, doesn't need assistants from the old regime looking over her shoulder or questioning things that differ from what Kellie did. Keeping assistants, especially the one in charge of recruiting, should be sent packing. She doesn't need Tennessee's way, it has to be her way.
Exactly and also keeping Sam makes sense bc the next few weeks in the portal will make the absolute difference in whether next season is a decent start or a serious setback. They simply must find a quality post and at least one elite scorer or next season is mid pack SEC at bestI get your idea that it’s best to move away from the old staff, but under the time restraints and the fact that CKC probably doesn’t have existing relationships with top tier assistant coaches, at least keeping Sam makes sense. I agree I mentioned this was a major problem under Kellie before on here… Lacy and Sullivan were not it… I’m hoping DW and her went over this during her plan and she already had coaches or candidates lined upI get your idea that it’s best to move away from the old staff, but under the time restraints and the fact that CKC probably doesn’t have existing relationships with top tier assistant coaches, at least keeping Sam makes sense. For sure. If they already had someone else on the hook who is connected, perfect. If they didn’t, I would try to at least keep Sam.I agree I mentioned this was a major problem under Kellie before on here… Lacy and Sullivan were not it… I’m hoping DW and her went over this during her plan and she already had coaches or candidates lined up
But what good did that do for the last coach? They couldn’t recruit top recruits that were sitting in TN, they were plain crappy with recruiting, so why worry about keeping ANYONE from the past when they were so bad with recruiting are they just magically going to get better and pull in some studs for next season right now? I mean if that’s the case I’d have some huge questions on why they were so bad to begin with that it led to a coach getting fired! For sure. Well if u believe what people on here have said, DW will be giving more access to Nil funds to the coach he hired and that’s the only reason people on here say we don’t get elite recruits. But what good did that do for the last coach? They are full of crap, maybe they need to talk to some of the parents of these highly rated kids and ask them about TN coaches and HOW they were recruiting! I might not know a ton but I know a few parents of players and they said Kellie and staff recruited players like Dooley was doing here. Being lazy and only half hearted thinking the LV on their stuff would bring the ladies in. Heck we didn’t even have that great of recruiting classes before NIL started so it’s just an excuse for those that were bailing water for Kellie and staff to use NIL as an excuse!Well if u believe what people on here have said, DW will be giving more access to Nil funds to the coach he hired and that’s the only reason people on here say we don’t get elite recruits.
Sam brought in plenty of recruits and we were in several recruits top 5, but for some reason whether it be NIL money or something else, the recruits went elsewhere. I’m not saying everything was perfect but Sam definitely did her job by getting them there. And again, I’m not saying you absolutely have to keep her, but they better have a well connected coach in the hand if they let her go. These are recruiting waters that Marshall wasn’t in, so you need someone that has at least some prior relationship or work done with the types of recruits we need. But what good did that do for the last coach? agreed. she could keep sam, try it out for a year, and see how they mesh. i tend to think sam could mesh with anyone. she's been one of the best non-head coaches at tn. a real gem. anyone who thinks she's just another coach who doesn't deserve a special consideration to stay is terribly uninformed.Exactly and also keeping Sam makes sense bc the next few weeks in the portal will make the absolute difference in whether next season is a decent start or a serious setback. Yeah it’s noticed but I also remember when Kellie signed and days after her press conference multiple players had entered the portal..:Westbrook, Mimi, Zay….i know Zay was dismissed but yeah. I would give it a week and then see.Has anyone noticed that Tennessee is the only team in the SEC not to have players enter the portal? Seems like a sign the current roster is giving our new coach a chance.
Zaay did not enter the portal after the press conference. She stayed and played for Kellie in year one. She suffered a season ending injury after the first game of the 2019-20 season. She was dismissed the following spring.Yeah it’s noticed but I also remember when Kellie signed and days after her press conference multiple players had entered the portal..:Westbrook, Mimi, Zay….i know Zay was dismissed but yeah. If White wants to support CKC, he delivers the resources to a hire a new team of great assistants, maybe a kind of experienced horse whisperer like Al Brown. There is a lot of talent out there with recruiting connections. Clean slate, new beginnings, transformational change, let's see, reboot to greatness, change the oil and put in a new air filter, purge and splurge, eh, maybe I better stop ...........Exactly and also keeping Sam makes sense bc the next few weeks in the portal will make the absolute difference in whether next season is a decent start or a serious setback. Yeah was going to edit that. Regardless, the others did and we could hear about transfers in the near future.Zaay did not enter the portal after the press conference. Nooo definitely not
That’s become clear over the last season. I think we will see more lateral transfers this year and fewer vertical transfers.
Kellie is one who really tried it out with the mid-major stars and it just doesn’t translate at the highest level. For some reason she was always getting forwards from mid-majors though. Franklin, Keyen, Alexus Dye…Dye was the best of the 3 but she was out of her depth and you could tell.
(The name Green today made me start thinking. Whatever happened the Cheridene? She seemed like she had more to offer than we ever saw)
Agree. Whatever makes KC more comfortable, if that’s bringing the assistants that helped her win enough games to get this job, then that’s what she should do. Maybe hire a different person to be a recruiting adviser. I would think keeping the previous Coach‘s assistants would be really awkward, but still, it should be totally KC’s decision.Noooo I hate this so much
Must say, Franklin was maybe the most savvy basketball player I’ve ever seen. She was quick and made so many smart decisions, and she made her teammates look good. Unfortunately, toward the end of her playing for us, her leg just wouldn’t hold her up, but when she was healthy, she was great!
Then there’s Keyen, I noticed her fighting and scoring under the basket, but didn’t think much about it, until she went out for the season. There was just really no one to replace her, and the team sort of collapsed, made me appreciate her more.
Then there’s Alexus Dye, who won games for us with so many rebounds and put backs under the basket. She was a fighter, and made me realize how badly we always need a player like her under the basket.
So, for me, I thought all 3 were way more than ‘serviceable’, they were irreplaceable.

No turn. 09 used the word serviceable, and you agreed. Not advocating Marshall players should come here at all. Though 09 used those 3 to somehow again criticize Kellie, it wasn’t even about that. Maybe sentimental, but I thought so highly of those three particular players, just had to say so.Keyen and Dye were important to the LVs for sure and Franklin had a tough injury break but the turn in this conversation is a little baffling.
The BIG, recurrent and legitimate critique of Kellie was that she could not close on enough blue chip prospects to compete with the SCs, LSU, Uconns and other elite schools, Rather she was getting too many mid major caliber players who did not matchup with the upper echelon players. But now, when it comes to CKC, it is heck ya bring on yer Marshall players and lets give these hard working mid major players a chance at the big time!!!! What can possibly go wrong!!!!!
It is a completely bonkers counter narrative, on par with just wait Edie Darby will be SEC player of the year!!!. We all love an underdog story but CKC needs to have the LVs again competing and winning in the upper tier recruiting game and not hoping finding a diamond in the rough at the lower recruiting level. If she brings in one Keyen Green type workhorse, role player with a set of blue chippers,. great. If its all Keyens (rr less), the talent gap to SC, LSU, Texas, etc. is going to get increasingly unbridgeable no matter how good of an X & O coach yoy may be.
Believe me, adding four or five Marshall players to next year's roster will not make CKC's up hill climb any easier.
