Nope. The coach’s job now is to fill the roster with the best players he can. If the incumbents can’t compete, so be it. No time for development anymore because there is no guarantee anybody is going to be around past one year. You’ve got people celebrating getting players who are on their third school in three seasons. Next it will be players who have changed schools every year of their eligibility. Looking forward to the first guy that goes 4 for 4.

That’s the code of the mercenary. Buy the best soldiers you can get. It’s all about winning and the money and to hell with sentimentality and developing relationships. That only counts in Hallmark movies.
Oh I agree 100%.. I'm completely on the belief of trying to make the best possible team you can possibly put together. It's a cut throat business.

Which to me also means it's cut throat for the players as well. It's a business and they should be able to do what fits them the best. Just feel like you can't have it go both ways criticizing players and celebrating coaches, just like you can't celebrate players and criticize coaches for the same things. It's all a business

Tyson is a 3 perhaps exclusively in my opinion. Now he would benefit from our S&C program but he wouldn't need to play the 4. Milicic (if he signs) and Dubar would primarily be at 4. Dubar could play either. Even Mashack could play the 4 in a smaller lineup before Tyson. Phillips also a 4.
He played the 4 exclusively at Belmont. You think he could guard Estrada at Bama? He would have too if he played the 3 exclusively. That would be a major mismatch imo.

Would be a great starting five with Millic Jr./ Dubar, Okpara, Gainey, and Carr off the bench. Add in Lanier, and I seriously think your looking at a Top 5 team once again. I won’t get ahead of myself though, it can change all in one minute.

Ok, so I’ve seen JJJ listed at 6’6-6’7 224 lbs. There was chatter on volnation last week that Dubar measured closer to 6’5 when he visited. That may or may not be true, but he is still 10-12 lbs lighter than JJJ. If he is a legit 6’8 it’s not a big deal, but if he is indeed more like 6’6 212 he is not bigger.
6’6” 212lbs is what JJJ measured in at, at last years NBA combine.

I believe you. And he would probably get a shot there. But imo when push comes to shove it wouldn’t last, especially with Barnes and how much he values defense.

Agree DK improved defensively big time. But DK was a way better athlete the day he stepped on campus. Apples to oranges imo. Also, DK had the luxury of having one of the most versatile 4 man defensively in the county on the floor with him most of the time. It’s a different story with Igor and Dubar at the 4. Like I said collectively the team would be too slow imo and I just don’t see it in SEC play. Maybe I’m wrong.
He played quite a bit of 3 at Belmont, so I’d say the coaches went off that tape in large part. If he can’t play the 3 here then it will likely be an issue, because that’s both what the staff sees him as and what Tyson (and his family want him to play), and also what UNC is recruiting him as.

You are correct about one thing. It’s now simply a business and it doesn’t matter if anybody likes it or not. No question some coaches will promise the moon to a prospect. That’s always been the case. I just don’t see Barnes being dishonest with a prospect. I can see him telling them they will get a chance to compete and they should know it won’t be easy. The incumbents may not believe him though when they see 2 or 3 experienced players brought in at their position. The new era just makes it easier to leave.

Just Pipedreaming but

ZZ/Gainey
Lanier/Carr
Tyson/Mashack
Dubar/Igor
Okpara/JP

Redshirt Boswell/Mabor if we land him

Rick usually won’t go that deep but imagine a 10 deep lineup of those players. don’t see Mashack coming off the bench but that would be a great lineup

I get that we're all in the "it's only a glimmer of hope" stage with Tyson, but I wonder why he didn't just commit this weekend if the scales are still tilted so heavily in their favor.

It depends on who we get…you forget last year we saw JJJ and JM both play some minutes at the 5, Dubar is bigger than both.
But those weren’t starting roles. They were forced and only minimum minutes.
Mashack will play whatever role he’s given and will be a leader in the locker room no doubt.
The staff would probably prefer Dubar to stick with a 3 position. But if Tyson comes I think Mashack plays the same role he did last season and Dubar getting very minimum playing time.
Dubar is a spot up shooter who doesn’t really move around. I think he’ll have a hard time transitioning to the offense we like to run
