I don’t think that’s very likely…the odds of landing both Tyson and Igor both is still low, and if you do we still aren’t full either. All of this Lanier talk just feels hard for me to buy into because he isn’t in the portal yet and there is a very realistic chance that if he does hop in the portal it will be too late because we may have a “full roster before he decides to even withdraw from the draft.
We don’t look close to having a full roster anytime soon. All of this Lanier talk just feels hard for me to buy into because he isn’t in the portal yet and there is a very realistic chance that if he does hop in the portal it will be too late because we may have a “full roster before he decides to even withdraw from the draft.

I don’t disagree, but he plays a totally different position than both those guys so in don’t really see how they’d impact him. I think that’s why you don’t see the staff pursuing any other guards, it has been all 3/4/5 that they’ve targeted.I know we aren’t technically full, but let’s just say we did land Tyson and Igor, it’s hard to believe Lanier would view us as an attractive landing spot at that point.
Regardless, it feels like he is weeks away from even deciding to hit the portal, so hard to know what our roster will look like at that point.

I understand you keep recruiting both and you take both if they want to come, but I’d be shocked if that were to happen. The staff went into this thinking it was one or the other just simply playing the odds, they set the visits the way they did for that reason. Now that Tyson has left UNC without committing and in is in dialogue with the staff and allowing a meeting to be set up they are fully prepared to take both players.
Maybe that means you don’t take Lanier later on, maybe it means someone leaves, maybe it means nothing, but imo you take the guys you like and ask questions later.
Lanier is a 1/2, or 2/1 if you prefer to word if that way…nobody we’ve taken or are currently targeting is capable of playing the 1 or 2.I guess I just see Lanier in that same amorphous 1-4 position-less basketball we seem to be going for. Between ZZ, JM, Gainey, Carr, Dubar, Igor, and Tyson, that’s 7 guys Lanier would be competing for minutes with at “guard” (I use that loosely) and we know that we aren’t going more than 9 deep on a rotation. So, add Estrella and Okpara to this hypothetical and someone is going to be upset with their minutes.
Any other teams linked heavy with Chaz that we might be concerned about? Some Maryland fans are saying their writers have linked them with him, really the first time I’ve heard another team mention his name as an assumed portal guy.Yea, list is usually out around first week of May, so you’re talking probably 2 weeks or so.
Deep bench? Versatile lineups? Tons of shooters? Sounds like a great problem to have.I understand you keep recruiting both and you take both if they want to come, but I’d be shocked if that were to happen.
Imo Dubar, Tyson, and Milicic are all 4’s with Dubar or Tyson only being able to hold up defensively at the 3 in certain matchups. And I don’t see Igor playing much 5.
If somehow all 3 of those guys ended up on the roster I think one of them would be the odd man out of the rotation eventually. Barnes might say he has the intention to make it work with all 3 playing a large roll, but by the time SEC play rolls around he won’t be having it defensively and one guy would end up on the bench. Jmo.
I’ve seen that but just think it’s because of the Gillespie addition, I’ve heard nothing to think that Lanier will be anywhere else other than Knoxville if he indeed enters the portal.Any other teams linked heavy with Chaz that we might be concerned about? IF we end up landing all these guys, could someone like Dubar decide to leave after summer if they see their PT not being what they expected? Who knows, but could definitely see a new guy being upset. Gotta think we are going to prioritize keeping Shack happy and it seems like part of us taking Dubar so soon was Tyson’s assumed commitment to UNC.I guess I just see Lanier in that same amorphous 1-4 position-less basketball we seem to be going for. I don’t remember who said that and don’t want to go against SF or BTO (they have actual sources and may have been told a date), but if it was someone else they could’ve just been assuming that bc the portal closes 5/1. He can leave later though, since he’s a graduate.I seem to remember seeing something about Lanier making a decision on the draft by 4/30.
