2024 Transfer Portal Thread

True but that's not an issue at UT. Our dance floor is much less crowded. And he'd be a near certain focal point of the offense here I'd suspect.

Let’s be real, he grew up in NC and pretty sure he grew up a Tar Heel fan, so our only chance was to sell immediate playing time. If UNC can do the same thing, and make him actually believe it, we have no shot.

Gainey is like our present version of Mcbee.

I’m sure I’ll get the “terrible comparison” but that’s who he reminds me of. Comes in, knocks down a 3 helps get some energy back.

I don’t get the hate.
Gainey reminds me a lot of jordan Bowden. Both have pretty shots, both are great athletes, but both seem to lack the it factor for consistent offensive play.

FYP also Gainey is like Bowden or Mcrae without the defense. While Gainey is not a -defender he is a meh defender. While Bowden and Mcrae were +defenders. IF offense is gonna be your calling card it has to be consistent if its not you gotta be a beast on D. That's Gaineys downfall. On most teams he'd be a heavy minute player but in Barnes's scheme, he is a net loss because Barnes values at least average defense above all. I think if we could cover him, Gainey playing heavy minutes could work and he could average 16-20 a game. e is that kinda guy that needs minutes.. but we cant because his 16-20 on the court gives up 18-24 to whoever he's supposed to be guarding.

Similar to Tyreke Key he came in early part of the season and pre-season looking great and then hit a big wall.

But I see the potential and think he can really grow and get a lot better.

Huh: my take on Gainey was that his defense was pretty strong but his shooting was simply not good enough. He shot 36 percent for
the season--which is better than I thought. However, at least 60 percent of his shots were from the 3-line--and his 3-point shooting
was 29%.

Imo, it would be very nice to have Tyson. If he goes to UNC that would be a bummer. But I really think Igor will win us some games if we can get him. I think he has a unique skillset with a background and mentality that will make him a draft pick.

How quickly people forget. He came in a number of games and was the player who was hitting his threes and picked up the pace of the game. He was put in pressure situations and performed well in most of those games.
