2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Better summary--As of this morning, my friend said he read Tyson as 60/40 for the bad guys, but that it's a space issue that could break our way. Igor better than 50 for us. Lanier-- ours but her fears time hurting it. Awake is trending away.
If Tyson chooses UNC I’m not overly concerned. He is a North Carolina kid and it was always going to be a hard pull, but to be 60/40 is still really good in my mind.

I’m guessing the portal and the Vols roster next season. If anyone is concerned, go watch the Barnes press video from yesterday. This is a man in full control of his program that is ready to adapt no matter what is thrown at him. He sounded like a guy with zero interest in leaving the game. In fact, he seems to enjoy building a new team each season. Barnes is the gift that keeps on giving. I believe he is now the longest tenured SEC coach at their current program (maybe it’s Bruce though).
I read it that way as well. I love CRB more after showing this adaptability. Most coaches his age would just take the get off my lawn approach lol

you're right. my friend said we wouldn't give up igor without a fight. read that as NIL, but forgot he's not eligible.

Not terribly encouraging that we need something to break our way in nearly every recruitment we are involved in. 😕

Yeah Tennessee isn't a historic basketball school like UNC and although well invested doesn't have super deep Texas Baylor pockets. So it generally takes a dude who really vibes with team and Barnes on top of essentially guaranteed being part of top 25 team.

I think we are prepared to counter Baylor on Igor. I don’t think we can affect Tyson with just NIL. UNC is pitching a “historic team” story, and that probably resonates with a kid from NC. Can’t do anything about Lanier right now, but I hope that doesn’t turn into a free for all.
This one will likely end up a bidding war ... because he is delaying his decision ... by that time ... teams will be desperate ... so it will depend on what Lanier wants ... fit or money or both.

There will be other portal entries in the coming weeks nothing is set in stone but we will get our lion share a long with the blue bloods we are going up against, our biggest sell after nil contract is for sure playing time and UNC has a bunch of 5 stars and guys testing the draft waters that could muddy their situation as far as playing time goes if they come back…

Bottom line Hubert Davis can’t sell playing time if a certain player comes back..which I think he will

our NIL fund is Very good. Baylor player roach completely shot Down that he was getting 1.5M

I feel like we really should try to get a 7 footer to replace Aidoo. Is there anyone like that in the portal?

No offense to Awaka, but I don’t think he has earned the right to “see how our roster takes shape.” That implies he doesn’t think we are going to be very good next year so he wants to leave the door open to flee if we miss on all our targets.

Jump in the boat or don’t. He should realize that he has an important role to play in that roster taking shape, too.

I'm choosing to remain slightly optimistic rather than slightly pessimistic on all the portal stuff. If we don't land Tyson, that's okay. He would've been great here, but I think we're in on enough quality targets that we'll be okay. Igor, I'm going to remain the most optimistic on. Lanier, I have no clue. Awaka, I'll be fine with either outcome tbh.

I think he just wants to be the de facto starter that’s why he wants to keep his options open to see who we bring in, so I don’t blame him but also don’t blame our position on the matter.

I also saw someone say Kentucky somehow managed to get Tshiebwe or whatever his name is some money, so maybe it's not completely set in stone. Reportedly the center from Arizona going to Indiana also is getting a boatload of cash. Curious if anyone can explain if there are exceptions.

Do you have proof that we don’t spend NIL in basketball?

Sounds like a made up narrative around here.
Seems we always hear about other teams offering more money. Aidoo left for more money. Awaka has a chance at more money. So-and-so picked some school because they were offered more money.

I didn't say our NIL was non-existent, just that, apparently, we need more money.

And money is a better excuse than they just don't want to play for CRB or Tennessee.

They used the Cameo app at first to get around his student visa status. Since it was non US, they were able to do skirt the visa law.

The market shifted this year and certain schools upped things quite a bit. Our overall NIL for basketball is a great group and they will adjust as much as they need to. We just got ambushed this year.

And? We're still hearing the players we want most might choose to follow the money. It's funny how personal some of you take suggesting we need more NIL money. CRB is a great coach, but we're in a new world and these kids want to get paid. They can still have love for CRB yet choose to take the money. Wake the eff up. NIL has changed everything.

So saying we need more money, like I did, is not incorrect?

Would you want pay Aidoo the same as Knecht for a year? Because I certainly don’t…we have money we’re just not going to spend it frivolously, that is difference..
