I want Penn state to replace this game. I got a buddy who always talks trash about TN and he is a big Penn state fan so it be nice to beat them.

A lot of people are predicting Tennessee will play Penn State in the Citrus Bowl on January 2nd.

Vols were 2-0 vs Penn St then invented ways to lose 2 of the last 3. The 1992 Fiesta Bowl was a joke. Tennessee dominated first half up 17-7 but Majors & some players (Pickens & Carter) got into a shouting match. Players didn’t want to play 2nd half. Fulmer & other assistants had to beg players to come out for 2nd half. Penn St won 42-17.

Then Tennessee was driving for the clinching TD in the bowl in 2006. Foster fumbled & Penn St returned to go ahead. They added a TD late after a 4th down failed.

Penn St did kick Vols butt in Shuler last game in 1993.

I would be happy with that because Tennessee will have to win 9-10 games to get there.

I don’t want ACC refs irregardless of what bowl Tennessee may go to. Those guys are dirty.

A lot of people in here would rather play Chattanooga than Clemson or Michigan. Very odd. games like Akron and Ball state are waste of time. They are boring and do nothing

Akron and Ball State level games are revenue games as we never have to give them a home & home deal. Which means we get 7 or sometimes 8 home games every year. Remember when looking at the "why?" for anything follow the money.

It will be that or an FCS school at this point.

I think an overall waiver from the NCAA would be needed to schedule 2 FCS games in a season and have both games count towards bowl eligibility (and I honestly can’t think of a time when that’s been granted or been done schedule-wise). Between the two options, they’d probably have a much easier time going through the conference for a waiver to not have to play a Power 5 team in an OOC game.
