I don’t blame Kuch, I just don’t think he’s being completely honest. It likely wouldn’t have been a bad idea for Greyserman to follow suit, but after his unfortunate meltdown, he was probably just ready to leave. But in reality I think Kuchar was worried about his top 125 overall status way more than winning. Being able to come back, get the drop, save par (and almost hole out for birdie), bumped him to 103, greatly improving his chances to retain his tour card.
