And it also led A&M to give Jimbo that ridiculous guaranteed extension. They were scared he'd go to LSU to hook back up with Scott Woodward, who hired him at A&M.

Taking emotion out of it, Stoops is a drastically better hire/coach than Elko. That is largely in part that Elko doesn’t have the same number of seasons as a head coach.

Stoops is definitely gonna have the perfect chance to put up or shut up as a head coach.

I personally think he's a great hire for Michigan State. However, looking at one MSU fan forum, it doesn't sound like the fans are all that excited about the hire. That's pretty sad. He's a tough coach to beat. He lost 3 games this year by a total of 8 points. Yes, my Ducks took care of the beavs just fine, but that was payback and rivalry.

Heupel has 2 HCs who were coordinators under him. Golesh & now Lebby (2019).

Also noteworthy is that Anthony Tucker, who was Heupels Co-OC at UCF, should become available after Tom Allen's termination (served as Co-OC & WR coach).

No coach has ever had a successful run at Tech. Location not horrible compared to other OVC or FCS level schools. THey recruit middle TN the heaviest and fill in quite a few from greater ATL and South GA. The rest are sprinkled around. They held on to Watson Brown long enough to allow him to become the all time losingest coach in NCAA history. Until recent years it has never been a very attractive campus. Prez Odom has found a channel to some serious money though. The upgrades and new buildings all over campus has been unprecedented for any university over the last 5-7 years. Upgraded dorms. New Health and Athletic center (old one goes to the athletic department). New science center. New Engineering center going up now. Expansion of Student Center. Campus "beautification" everywhere. All very impressive. Stadium will be next after season. Current visitor side will be rennovated first for next season and flip to the home side. The field itself is already top notch. Rated best cafeteria food in the state.

Not sure why they have never been able to compete in football or basketball. But, Tech is the Vandy & GaTech of southern FCS schools. Engineering and Computer fields (STEM fields in general) don't take a back seat to many schools at all in the greater south. And a fairly reputable nursing program. The only men's sport that has seen success on a fairly regular basis is baseball. I don't know what other OVC and FCS schools are able to offer for salary, but at Tech it ain't much and that's likely the issue. The baseball coach was only making 125-140K when he left for Rice. Not sure what they offered him to come back after Rice fired him. Football HC probably pays similar. And the assistant coach money pool probably not great. So there's that.

Having said all that Alexander was never a good choice for HC even at FCS Tech.

20 mil would've been the 3rd highest buyout in the history of CFB.

At Indiana. One of the worst P5 schools in terms of historic success. Maybe the worst?

I'm assuming none of this happens w/o Mark Cuban.
