Hello everyone, this is Crunch. Some of you might know me some of you might not. I rustled more Arkansas fans jimmies than any posters combined during basketball season on the rant.

Anyways, our new AD has been putting in serious work. Baseball team is unbelievably good and basketball sas a pleasant surprise.

Everyone is underestimating our football team though. To be returned Hooker, Tilman and Small is just huge. Jalen Wright will have a breakout year as well at RB and reciever position looks stacked with talent.

Defensive backs is the biggest concern unfortunately.

I expect us to blow the doors off Florida thiugh and to walk into death valley undefeated. LSU has a lot of roster talent, but we catch them early and they likely won't have established any real offensive identity yet. I really do believe we head into the Bama game undefeated for the first time in a long time. Pitt and LSU will be our toughest tests. We will boatrace UF by multiple TDs. Watch. This season is going to be a special one imo. Doubt we beat Bama, but the UGA game will be very close imo and go down to the wire.

I won't predict who we will or will not beat, but I will say that this football season will be exciting again. We have a coach who has an established scheme and is surrounded by coaches who truly seem to be on the same page, sentence and word. Across the board, we appear to have competent, strong coaches to lead every sport at Tennessee. I feel hope and belief for all the sports at our beloved Big Orange University.

I agree there is opportunity for a very good season, but we need to get much better defensively. If the defense can go from mediocre to competent we will be good. It is a wait and see if the defense can get off the field on third down. If they can the Vols will have a great season. If not, it is going to take another year or two for the depth to be recruited and developed.

Our defense will still be a issue but the offense should be very good. I predict 8-5 or 9-4 for this season. Heupel has to beat Florida this year.

8-5 would be a massive dissapointment for me. Hooker supposedly has been working very hard this off-season Peyton style and knows the scheme and offense like the back of his hand now. I don't want to see any more UGA game type performances from him. We were in that game late if he hits his early wide open WRs.

Cut him some slack, that was the best college defense in a decade. The really egregious overthrow he had early which would have been a touchdown ended up not mattering because we scored a TD on that drive anyway. They adjusted after the second series and we didn't do much from that point until garbage time. No one we play this year will have 3-5 first rounders in their front 7 though.

Super-Optimistic for football this year! Though I doubt that we are Bama or Uga killers, yet. But, the opportunity is there. “And THAT’s why they play the game”!!!!!!

I'm pretty worried about the defense. Have to have a serviceable d to get to 8-9 wins. Let's hope the d can hold up and pleassee get off the field on 3rd downs.

Defensive line and LB won't be as bad as people think imo. Remember, this will be a lot of guys' second year in the system. They were bad last year, but not really as bad as they looked. Defensive backs is the question mark for me. Third down defense has GOT to improve though.

Lol ok.

What are your game by game predictions leading you to expect 10+ wins or where 8 wins is a massive dissapointment?

Fwiw here are my predictions, which leads to a 7.7 - 4.3 season.

Ball St 95%

@Pitt 65%

Akron 99%

Florida 50%

@lsu 55%

Alabama 10%

UT-Martin 99%

Kentucky 55%

@Georgia 15%

Missouri 75%

@South Carolina 65%

@Vanderbilt 90%

VN always says we will beat Florida this year for something to happen and it not happen. We are cursed against them.

If we don't look like a deer caught in the headlights against the Gators that will be a major improvement.

Been saying it for....I don't even remember how long anymore. But I actually feel more optimistic this time. Lol, said that before too.

Win the ones we're supposed to and for the love of all things orange, beat the gatorsuck. And be in the others. Don't get boat-raced by anyone.

Get-r-did.

I am a HUGE Hendon Hooker fan. Best thing to happen to us since Dobbs.

However, he was off big time that game period and UGA's secondary was not elite.

I think the pass rush and the magnitude of that game got to him. UGA had a hell of a defensive line and LBs that got on him early. But their secondary was nothing close to elite as Bama showed in the SECCG.

We had WRs running wide open at the second level all game long. You need to go rewatch it to see. Us and Bama were the only two legit offenses that they played all season. SEC was down last year overall.

The last time i felt this optimistic was in 2016 when we had peak Dobbs and an overall loaded roster including our best sack leader since Reggie White aka Derreck Barnett, Alvin Kamara and Hurd and a slew of talented recievers and linebackers.

Our only kryptonite then was Butch Jones. We don't have as much overall talent right now as that roster, especially on defense, but our offense this year is going to be loaded and really really special. Plus we got a real Xs and Os coach.

I hear what you are saying but that's what I'm mostly talking about, we couldn't block their front 7 consistently. He didn't just happen to have an off game, the defensive pressure effected Hooker. Although I don't expect us to beat them next year, I do expect it to be more competitive because they don't have ALL those dudes. Consistent pressure has always been the way to beat an elite passing game and a good QB. Even the best of quarterbacks will be inaccurate if they are running for their lives every other play. That was the biggest difference in the SEC and National Championship games I thought. Bama blocked UGA alot better in the first game than the second, and in the second game Bryce Young was affected negatively by the pressure. In that first game he had all day to throw, no DB's can consistently cover 5-7 seconds. The offensive player has the inherent advantage of knowing where they are going and the DB just reacts. The longer that goes on = advantage offense.
