You do know how profoundly stupid that "logic" is, right? Two completely different teams will face each other this fall. There will be some players in common but the teams will be different. The coaches will be different than those previous teams. That's like saying you won't go to a restaurant because it has "always been bad" after a new manager and cook come in and totally overhaul the place. But the reason is... it was bad in the past.Dude what makes you think we can honestly beat UF? We have less than. 10 wins against them TOTAL since 1990. The bottom line is it doesn’t matter about the coach, the QB, the defense of the recruiting classes. TN just doesn’t beat UF.
Yet you say that you have to keep a coach even after his losing stops recruiting momentum. It is like you are resigned to failure... you're happy to be a 2nd or 3rd tier program. But yeah like you keep stammering on 3 years blah, blah, blah. I have said repeatedly, and you cannot understand it, that we cannot win at the level of UGA, Bama and OSU without a roster full of 4 and 5*. And you cannot prove me wrong because actual data proves you wrong.
When Pruitt was hired, I never expected him to beat UF. When Heupel was hired, I never expected him to beat UF. It’s just a TN thing. Are we ever going to beat UF? In all honesty? I think we will get a fluke win like Butch got in 2016. Could that happen this year? Doubtful but maybe. I think Napier is gonna be a better coach than Mullen was. LOL... your "feelings" say it... you aren't strong enough to have hope after being disappointed. So you cannot look at this year's game and evaluate it... you just write it off as a loss.
Someone will break that barrier. Lots of streaks have been established and broken in college football
If you don't believe Heupel can beat UF then why are you objecting to the idea that it will get him fired? What difference does it make to you if UT loses under Heupel or under someone else?
Not what I said. I am tempted to say "and you know it"... but your posts prove consistently that you can't be counted on to be intellectually honest or capable of understanding even straightforward arguments. So you think if Heupel loses to UF this year that our recruiting will begin to erode?
It will be a mark against him... "just another UT coach that can't beat UF even when they're down"... no different from the rest. Basically recruits will believe the non-sense you just spewed. It will also be another loss.
I believe a coach can find talent without going to 247 for pointers. You don't. No matter how it has been explained to you... you just refuse to acknowledge that it isn't the recruiting sites that make the top teams talented.
Regardless, if Heupel doesn't PROVE he can coach by winning more than 8 regular season games within his first 3 years then history says recruits will stop listening. It isn't unique to UT. It happens across CFB. If you count UGA, Bama, and UF as automatic losses as you appear to do... then his window is tiny. You can keep him after 3 years. You can hope that you can beat UK out for enough medium talent to beat them sometimes. But you aren't likely according to history to grow the program into a championship contender.
Fortunately, it seems Heupel understands that better than you. He's not counting on having indefinite time to figure things out.
Pitt won’t be easy. It’s a road game and they have good talent coming back. Phil Steele ranked them 11th and us 27th. Granted, some of that will be because their schedule is easier but that tells me they won’t be a pushover. He ranked their D line 2nd in the country and our O line wasn’t a strength last year. Hopefully it will be better this year. I believe we will win a close one but it won’t be easy.Pitt is an easy win. Lose to Pitt this year and that’s a HUGE problem. Your scenario is a failure for Heupel.
Takes like this are dumb. So if he goes 10-2 losing to Florida and Bama then he’s on the clock? Good thing you aren’t making decisions. If UT loses to this UF team at home then Heupel has HUGE problems. I like him. I think he gets that win. But if he can't beat them this year then he ain't beatin' them. If he doesn't beat UF... then he's on a short clock.
Who would’ve thought we’d beat both FL and GA to only lose to South Carolina and Vandy in 2016. Bama and A*M were understandable but not the other two.
You think he will lose to THIS UF team at home and beat UGA in Athens? What were you saying about dumb?Takes like this are dumb. So if he goes 10-2 losing to Florida and Bama then he’s on the clock? Good thing you aren’t making decisions.
Well, people weren't shocked when UT beat UF and UGA that year. But Butch Jones is an incompetent HC... so unfortunately those losses weren't all that shocking either.Who would’ve thought we’d beat both FL and GA to only lose to South Carolina and Vandy in 2016. Bama and A*M were understandable but not the other two.
Anything is possible. As someone posted earlier, we beat UF and UGA and lost to SC and Vandy under Butch. Florida almost beat Bama last year and struggled mightily with Samford. Surely you’ve watched enough football to know how wacky it can be at times. I didn’t take anything out of context. You flat out said if we lose to UF then Heupel is “on the clock”. I would be disappointed for sure, as I always am, but I’m no way should we start looking at heating his seat up until we know more. Now if we are healthy and we go backwards from last year’s record, then I could agree. Things happen in single games though. You think he will lose to THIS UF team at home and beat UGA in Athens? What were you saying about dumb?
Nice job of stripping part of an argument out of context btw.
You added that last part after I responded. In the future, you should put that as an edit underneath your original post because you’re changing your statement, not just correcting a spelling error. Where did I say anything about counting UF as an automatic loss? I agree we shouldn’t do that but you’re putting too much on one game this upcoming season in my opinion. You think he will lose to THIS UF team at home and beat UGA in Athens? What were you saying about dumb?
Nice job of stripping part of an argument out of context btw. Counting UF as an automatic loss gives Heupel a window of two games that make the difference between 9 wins and 7.
