2022 Army game bought out (merged)

We play Florida, Bama and Georgia every year and we are scared of Army? So what is your argument for why we should play? Just curious.
To just prove we are better than Army. It’s just not a good look at this time to drop playing anyone. Take off the orange glasses and what would you think if Kentucky dropped Army and picked up Akron?

What exactly in my reply said I have orange colored glasses on. The decision was made and both administrations are good with it. Why do I care who Kentucky plays? Why didn't you answer my question? Apparently the decision to drop them started a while back (previous administration). White, when asked stated Heupel wasn't consulted on the decision. Why he upset about something you can't control.

Army may be good with it because they got a big payday for doing nothing. But they are sitting on an opening for next season and yet to replace us. So even if Army agreed to take the $ it was not a decision they obviously wanted but had no choice but to accept. It’s over we dropped Army and scheduled a game vs the worst program in football. Nuff said.

So they got paid to not play.. They ain't hurting..

Our hurry up is a gimmick also. Should teams not play us since it’s something that most teams don’t see every week🤷‍♂️

Absolutely. UF, Georgia and bammer should just forfeit this year. That would be awesome.

Actually there are plenty of fans who don't agree with this move. Volnation does not make up the majority of Vols fans.

And I wasn't complaining. I was stating an actual fact. Learn to read.

You are in a very small minority. It isn't about the WL, it's just stupid to have cut blocks and play the triple option the week before Florida. Right now the team needs all the help it can get. Remember we have 71 scholarship players, right? Hello! McFly! It's actually a wise move by AD White and Blake Toppemeyer and Finebaum can go straight to hell. Pretty sure Finebaum set up residence there many years ago. After all he lived in Birmingham for a long time. **** both those guys.

Apparently not. We can't even play Army at home.

Your comment is serously out of touch. Army has won 14 of their last 17 games, and drilled GSU 42-10. The same team that almost upset Auburn. They are an upper level D1 team this year, and perhaps next as well.

But White is on record as saying the decision was based on three things...no triple option BS, cut blocks, and being better prepared for Florida.

If it had been OU running a pro style offense or whatever the F they run, the game would still be on. And yes, OU is probably still better than Army at the moment. I use OU because they were on our schedule last year and may be again before too long. Doubt we cancel if it was someone like them.

Toppmeyer was on Finebaum again just now and really toned it down. Acknowledged that the triple option/cut block factored into it.

I suspect his twitter feed or whatever other social media was busy yesterday, and not in a good way, because in talking about it yesterday he was a complete arsehole.

Glad that he can learn from his mistakes. :p

Thank you for explaining. This all makes sense and I now believe it was a smart decision.

I wouldn’t care. No one would.

Army plays the weakest schedule in FBS every year and still sucks. They are terrible and we would beat them by 40 tomorrow. But they don’t matter. All midmajor programs will do whatever the elite programs tell them to do

It may be weak, but they have some impressive scores. Also I would say that Western Kentucky is a pretty decent FCS team this year, and that they only lost to a couple good teams last year. Staying within 3 points of WVU in the bowl game means they don't completely suck. I don't think we could beat WVU this year.

I would like to believe that we would beat Army next year, but at this point my confidence is TBD depending on how the rest of this year goes and how well we work the portal in the off season.

Having said that, I am glad we are not playing them because (a) what is the point of preparing for the triple option once a year, (b) cut blocks suck and I don't want our players injured, and (c) it's the week before Florida (see (a) and (b).

As to your assertion that we would beat Army by 40, I would literally bet my hose that we would not if the game was this Saturday. Next year, who knows, but still seems unlikley.

But your point that Army should be an easy win, whether I agree with it or not, is actually an argument in favor of dropping the game, as it robs the critics of their opinion that we are "running away".
