2021 Season Predictions

10-2 is obtainable (with losses to the Gators and Crimson Turds) with this schedule and a few more lucky bounces than what befell the hapless coaching and a few cursed individuals who drug the program down last year.
The team has enough talent (albeit somewhat thin) in the trenches and skill positions. I’m really liking what I hear about their work ethic accountability, and overall character though.
The secondary is more solid with Turnage and if the linebackers can hold their own (perhaps Banks will ball out and summon up some big Al Wilson fortitude and strength - and greater maturity- that & if Mitchell is the real deal), then it will solidify what was a previously poorly coached porous D.
I’m convinced Milton is going to man up and really surprise some folks with his multi dimensional skill sets! 🍺 🍺

Oh, it's a given that your defense is suspect. Grantham is an idiot. I can't believe Mullen retained him. A very questionable decision. The post is over on Swamp 247, said Emory was just missing wide open guys on easy throws. I think there was recently a practice with a pretty long media viewing period. I didn't say Richardson was special, but I do think he has the potential to be pretty good at least eventually based on his film, my guess is you will be significantly better at QB once he takes over. I imagine Jones will get the hook sometime during your prostate exam from Bama and will ride the pine for the remainder of the season.

Grantham had the 9th best defense in the United States of America in 2019. I liked him a lot then. I didn’t like the defense at all last year. Hopefully he gets back to 2019 form.

I always get a kick out of Gator haters going after Mullen on his QB’s, of all things. I think Emory is going to be excellent, and everything I’m hearing and reading supports that. But if Mullen decides to go with AR, I’m absolutely fine with that. I trust Mullen’s judgment. Looking forward to my coach handing Bama an ass kicking in week 3 and leading UF back to Atlanta.

Ah, the prognosticators, the oracles, seers, and odds makers - We’re skeptical of the money they make doing this sort of thing. Many of us believe we can do it just as well, and threads like this one pop up every preseason. It’s fun, right?

Well, I offer another perspective. When the coaches and team believe that they can win every game on their schedule, it’s easier to view the Vols as undefeated until they’re not. Naive? Detached from reality?

The benefits of this mindset include less anxiety, less aggravation, and an overall sense of well being. At the outset of the season, the Vols are 12-0 until they aren’t. When they lose for the first time, they’re 11-1 until they lose again. Our Vols can defeat anybody on any given Saturday. Yes, this predilection includes games against Bama, Florida, Georgia, P5 OOCs, and other favored opponents with program momentum and a winning track record. Everybody gotta lose sometime, and our Vols can earn the upset.

Sure, it’s looney tunes to think that our dysfunctional program is going to produce an undefeated team in the first year of a new coaching staff. It doesn’t matter. They coach the team with the mindset that they can defeat any given opponent. Eventually, the talent, execution, and intangibles will bring victory over favored opponents.

May there come a time when the Vols are favored by the oracles, but until then, embracing the optimistic outlook that Tennessee can win on any given Saturday means less heartburn, less heartache, and arguably, better overall health. I’m a Vols fan. I kneel before no one. GBO.

9-3 and 5-3 SEC.

If so then let's just go ahead and fire Heupel now. If he loses to 4 teams with equal or likely less talent in year one... it won't get better with time.
This is what I’m saying. QB play and players dreading to even practice from last season which kills the mental side of an athlete was a huge part of the problem last season. Coaches were a cancer as well.
Now we have an exciting style of play. A staff that has a lot of continuity especially on the offensive side of the ball. A HC that is one of the best QB/offensive minded coaches in all of college football. Racking up yards/scoring lots of points gives a team a different mojo vs knowing once you’re down 10 points it is over.
Now you factor in the upgrade in QBs vs JG/Maurer/Shrout plus the level of athletes on this roster still…only 2018 did South Carolina rank 3 spots higher than us in recruiting. Not one team on this upcoming schedule outside of Florida, Georgia, and Bama has better talent than us. Even with transfers we picked up some solid replacements too.
We will beat every OOC team this season. We should ll beat Mizzu, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Vandy. Last years team beat South Carolina and Mizzu with JG at the helm.
JG fumbles twice throws an INT in the 2nd half of the Georgia game then looks like a deer in headlights afterwards as we fall apart on his play. JG threw 3 INTs 2 for pick 6’s against Kentucky and the team quit for the rest of the year.
Just don’t see us losing to Kentucky, South Carolina, Mizzu, and Vandy.
It’s easier to write us off than believe we’re going to win. I hope our players and staff believe like me. The infectious disease of Pruitt and JG are gone now.

While many have expectations far beyond this, I don't think your prediction is too far off. It wouldn't surprise me if UT surprises somebody else like Missouri/Kentucky, so I'll say 7-5.
Why would we have to surprise Missouri and Kentucky. I don’t think Kentucky beats us two years in a row, and Missouri was a worse team than us last year. It’s amazing that some people think we got worse while other got better. We have a better coach and staff and a better QB regardless who we run out there between Milton, Hooker and Bailey.

6-6 if Bailey is the QB or 4-8 if Milton is the QB
Please explain. I like Bailey a lot and was advocating for him to be starting since day 1 over JG. But I honestly think we have 3 good QB’s that are better than what we had last year. Also if Milton beats out Bailey that means he is the better QB and with that logic how would we win more from a QB that was beat out? I would think if Milton beats out HB then not only is he the better QB but we would win more than the 6-6 you stated that HB would get us to!

Not sure we win that game against Pitt.

Hope I’m wrong - but this is a rebuilding team with a new system coming out of possibly the worst year in the history of the program. Pitt’s decent, and they’ll be looking to take a bite out of an SEC Team, especially one that hasn’t played like an SEC Team in years.

Oh, contraire, Pierre! While Tennessee's wins over Kentucky used to be automatic, the last 4 games are split 2 apiece, with last year resulting in a 34-7 spanking of the Vols. In the Missouri-Tennessee series, Missouri owns a 5-4 advantage over UT, with 2017 being a 50-17 thrashing by Missouri.
And remind me who the OC was for Missouri in 2017 again! And the Kentucky score is a little misleading. We throw 3 interceptions that they returned 2 of those for TD’s. Kentucky’s offense only scored 2 Td’s. Kentucky and UT was evenly matched last year with the exception at QB.

We lose that many down to S. Alabama and that could result in a loss too
I'm not taking shots at the Vols. I just think with all that program has been through, and with the NCCA isssues hanging over it's head, it is hard to expect much this season.

Not much love that I can see for Tennessee football so 6 and 6 seems to be a record that would be outstanding for the talent according to most. Pittsburgh, Kentucky, and Ole Miss seem to be the games we need to win to do better than most believe we can do. I'll stick with 6 and 6 think were going to beat a team or two no one thought we would.

Highly likely wins are Bowling Green, TN Tech, S Alabama, and Vandy. That’s 4.

Highly likely losses are Bama, UGA, and UF. That’s 3 so we’re 4-3 from those 7 games.

That leaves Pitt, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Kentucky. With our shiny new offense and massive upgrades over JG and Pruitt, I believe 3-2 against those 5 teams is reasonable. I say we beat Pitt, USC, and UK but it might be a different 3. I do feel good about winning at least 3 of those games though so I’ll go 7-5. If this were year 2 in this system I’d add another win but year 1 of a new system usually brings some bumps and bruises. Go Vols!

You are correct, sir! Missouri was #7 in total offense that year, and his high octane play-calling is why UCF came calling. But now, so excited to see him light UT's fuse!

I don't understand why people are saying we lose to mizzou. Isn't that one of the 3 wins we had last year. So they are supposed to be remarkably better and we are supposed to that much worse. 🙄
Probably because they are in year 2 and we are in year zero.

Ole Miss is the only team in that group that is equal in overall talent.

I actually have us losing to Ole Miss, but beating Florida.

I certainly think you are close to it... but it would be nice if we could knock off Ole Miss, as well... then we're 9-3 overall and 5-3 SEC.
