2021 recruiting rankings reality.

I just keep seeing people talk about recruiting and this is my take on it. I feel like people are looking at the wrong thing.

Someone will always find a reason why it's not good enough. Good grief
Ikr. As long as we are bringing in a group of talented kids i dnt see a problem. Top 5 recruiting class is great for the fan base but if i learned anything from Botch is that coaching them up is far more important. CJP has shown us that he can develope players with the best of them and thats what excites me the most.

We will probably shed 2-3 kids that are low ranked now. Everyone is triggered by him bringing up a valid point.

This, some fans don’t like reality. Have we had a good week in recruiting? Yes. Is our class ranked higher than it should be because we have so many commits? Also yes.

Will “most” (as indicated by an earlier poster) of our 3 stars get a 4th star? No, maybe 2 of them will. Certainly not most.

Are our coaches recruiting talent and not stars? Well...yes? But historically that doesn’t matter. Your top teams consistently pull classes made primarily of 4 star players and then have some 5 and 3 star guys to round out the class.

Do 3 star players outperform their ranking? Sure, some, but if you’re relying on outliers to build a program around then you may be hoping for something that will never materialize.

Will we lose some of the 3 star guys before NSD? Yep. Will we lose some of the 4 star guys? Yep. Will we lose some of the 5 star guy(s)? Maybe.

Numbers hae pushed our class up.. yes we just had a great weekend and that should not be discounted.. but the 9 commits that are 3 stars will bring the NUMBER of the class ranking down if other schools bring in 4 and 5 stars as all classes grow...just how it is

Getting the talent on campus is 10% of the battle. The rest is up to the players and most importantly, the coaches. We have had soooo much talent on our campus since our NC but, didn't have the coaching staff to recognize the talent and or know what to do with it.

I believe in Coach Pruitt and his staff

I guess the ranking is important. But (and this is a big but) we have experienced over the last miserable 10 years or so, the rankings are not nearly as important as what you do with it. We have experienced not playing a guy where he should be played, criminally under or not at all developing the talent a guy has and in some cases, just offering and taking a player on "stars" alone and never understanding how a guy would fit the so called system. So ranking means nothing if you can't back it up with results.

Yesterday in a thread I saw a few programs mentioned who hardly ever have a noticeable class ranking and they seem to really preform well. This speaks well for these programs coaching staffs. Something we have not been able or should have been proud of recently, that is until now,,,,, it appears.

two biggest things are momentum (we've got it) and chatter about vols on targets (seems we're in the top 3-5 for a ton of high talent guys), so I'm real happy with where we're at. I'd rather be at 5 or 7 and have something to complain about than 29, wondering what the heck is going on. Last few days makes me feel better...4-5* additions.

Anytime you are in the top 5 in recruiting in the nation and #2 in the SEC, just be happy and go with it. No matter how you want to negative spin it. This is shaping up to be a good class, but it is still a long way to go until February.

could be,should be, what if, might be good gosh why can't you just be happy for all the good things that are happening for vol football. We are currently top 5 - take your doom and gloom and drag someone else's football down

I recall when UT had the #1 recruiting class in June of 2013. Look at all that hardware it produced!

I think this staff is recruiting players that fit the system. Once a player steps on campus all that crap means squat anyway.
