2021 Fall Practice #2

You guys are comparing apples and oranges. Part of how many passes you get knocked down is based on the offense that is run. Kyler Murray had the most passes batted down in the NFL last year and he is not tall. He is not mainly a pocket passer so many of his passes being knocked down may be height related. Roethlisberger was second and he is tall. He is a pocket passer though and that is part of him getting passes knocked down. So again can’t base it purely on height.
Most of you are making an argument out of something that wasn’t said. Dipping an elbow takes away some of the advantages of being 6’5. Even Peyton had passes knocked down by taller DL…it happens. But a taller QB has the benefit in a stable pocket of being able to go over the top…point A to point B type of thing. Dip your elbow and you take some of that off.

Am I the only one who looks at the first coupla days of Fall practice, thinks about the cleats in the back of the closet and thinks...... I COULD still..... I could..... I think I could...... spend about 2 weeks in UT Medical Center CVICU.......
I would never get out of the ER....except to go to the morgue.

Justin Worely had a similar problem.

Vince Young too. It's not a myth.
It's physics. If you throw lower and taller objects are directly in your throwing path...

Not sure why this being argued.

If he rolls out the pocket then it's not same issue.

Side arm this, side arm that. I only know how much I liked watching Mr. Sidearm play back in the day. You might know him as Sonny Jurgensen. Sidearm or not, if our QBs can throw like Sonny, I'd be happy.

Practice looks much faster, more focused than the crap we saw with Jones (music blarring) and Pruitt (ive seen dead animals move faster) teams.

Most important tidbit of the day!
Did someone say slant coverage? Good slant coverage? Hummm? We haven’t heard good news in a long time about some slant coverage. I hope slant university has been defeated by our linebacker, corners, and db U’s. Let’s goooo!

I said it on Wednesday, the receivers look better. They are bigger and I like what you see in terms of development with Jimmy Callaway and Jimmy Holliday. Not finished products but improving for sure.
For I said it before, all of these guys look bigger, stronger, quicker than they were last year. Different workouts, technique, and work on the field.

Man that Tiyon Evans interview was fun, he seems like he has a great personality

Brings up something I hadn't thought about. When players in the past were taught how to engage the sports media, it was primarily defensive: give credit to God and teammates, don't talk trash against upcoming opponents, don't swear, etc.

With NIL, the shift will be toward presenting more personality, saying things that stand out, or that people like.

I foresee some wincing moments for fans and parents...

Good point, I hadn't thought of that either.

Can any of you QB experts help me out? I think Marino's elbow is a little low here in practice.

Thanks. Knew I wasn’t making up a myth. 😎

This meme is good. What else can we ask for? First thing is to stop that slant. I feel like if we can do that, then we may be able to do other coverages great to stop.

Yes. Defense is all mentality and accountability. We didn’t have a talent gap last year as much as we had an accountability gap. Some of those coaches can’t have much professional integrity to let the same thing happen over and over and over on film.

If Derrick Ansley was a plumber, every toilet he touched would be a turd cannon.

But that’s in the past, and out of respect for my liver I’m trying to stay positive and move forward.

Coaching comparisons between 2020 and 2021.

Offense
QB: Halzle/Heupel > Weinke
OL: Elarbee > Friend
RB: Graham > Mack
WR: Burns > Martin
TE: Golesh > Osovet

4 - 1 in favor of the 2021 coaching staff.

Defense
DL: Garner > Pruitt/fired Brumbaugh
LB: Jean Mary > Felton
CB/S: Banks/Martinez > Ansley/Pruitt
LB/ST: Ekeler > Niedermeyer
S&C: Schmidt > Artis

5 - 0 in favor of the 2021 coaching staff.
