I was looking at what we have coming back next season and I think this should be a pretty darn good team in 2020. There are some pieces we need to add through recruiting, but I could see this team competing for the East. By my count, we have 62 scholarship players returning. I've added our commitments to the depth charts in italics (with a few exceptions like Bailey, I put them at the bottom of the chart until they prove otherwise). Obviously, these are guesses. Also, I didn't include Williamson because I think his injury situation may keep him from signing with UT. Anyway, here goes...

63 Returnees

QB- Brian Maurer (So.), Harrison Bailey (Fr.), Kasim Hill (RSJr.), J.T. Shrout (RSSo.)

RB- Tim Jordan (Sr.), Eric Gray (So.), Ty Chandler (Sr.), Tee Hodge (Fr.)

WR- Joshua Palmer (Sr.), Jerrod Means (So.), Jalin Hyatt (Fr.)

WR- Ramel Keyton (So.), Cedric Tillman (RSSo.)

SL- DeAngelo Gibbs (RSJr.), Brandon Johnson (RSSr.), Jimmy Calloway (Fr.)

TE- Austin Pope (RSSr.), Jackson Lowe (RSFr.), Sean Brown (RSFr.), Princeton Fant (RSJr.), Jacob Warren (RSSo.)

RT- Darnell Wright (So.), Marcus Tatum (RSSr.)

RG- K’Rojhn Calbert (RSJr.), Jackson Lampley (So.), Javontez Spraggins (Fr.)

C- Riley Locklear (Sr.), Ryan Johnson (RSSr.), Cooper Mays (Fr.)

LG- Jerome Carvin (Jr.), Chris Akporoghene (RSFr.), Ollie Lane (RSSo.), James Robinson (Fr.)

LT- Wanya Morris (So.), Jahmir Johnson (RSSr.)

DE- Aubrey Solomon (Sr.), Matthew Butler (Sr.), John Mincey (Jr.), Dominic Bailey (Fr.)

NT- Emmitt Gooden (RSSr.), Greg Emerson (RSSo.), Savion Williams (Sr.), Elijah Simmons (RSFr.), Kingston Harris (RSSo.)

DE- Latrell Bumphus (Sr.), Darel Middleton (Sr.), JaQuain Blakley (RSSr.)

Brandon Johnson is for sure coming back next year it was announced a couple of weeks ago. Other than that looks spot on to me though. I guess there’s a slight chance Trey Smith comes back but agree it’s very unlikely

Johnson is definitely RSing...multiple sources have confirmed it...and I don’t see anyway that Calloway isn’t at WR to start off with based on our need there...

Other than that I like what you’ve got there...there will be some shuffling but I think it’s pretty accurate based on what we know now...and I agree it will be a very solid team...

With the way our trenches are developing and with another year in Fitzgerald’s program I think the LOS is going to be a major strength for next year and on...if Smith came back it could be the best OL in the league...every bit as good as UGA or Bama IMO

Thanks, guys. Glad to hear that Johnson will be back.

Once the remainder of the current recruiting class gets signed there will be quite a few more names on the board, but that's alot of what will be experienced players by then. Next years team should take some strides in the right direction
IF, BIG IF...we keep improving, and don't lay any eggs like Vandy/Miz last year, we should be able to sign another good class. Need some mojo desperately...just like MST was the biggest game of the year a couple weeks ago to get a W, SC is now the biggest game of the year, to show the next step of progress, besides meaningless "feel good" loss vs Bama.

I don't think we'll be competing for the east. Depends on how we fare with the recruiting class and the rest of the season, but I could see a 7-5 outcome the likely scenario. The guys are clicking and gelling, but next season is a harder schedule and we'll be deeper, but 2nd string will be inexperienced new recruits. I think we're still 2 seasons away, maybe 3 from seriously competing. Once these youngsters are juniors/seniors and the back-ups sophomores with a few elite freshman sprinkled in we'll be damn good.

I agree about being two years away from really competing but next years schedule isn’t that bad imo other than trading Oklahoma for BYU (yikes) we get probably the worst team in the sec in Arkansas and they are finally making October less brutal next year with Mizzou and Georgia trading places on the schedule.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize we got Arky and we get Mizzou first instead of GA?

Yeah, I know. I think he will transfer too, but he isn't gone yet. The kid isn't a quitter either.

There are times when the only way you can "reset" things is to go to a different team/company. I've experienced it. I'm sure many others have too. You can reach a point where your confidence issues and "baggage" just have to be thrown away... you can't sort your way through them.

I hope JG finds a new home and has a great Sr year. He's put up with enough disappointment to deserve it. But honestly I don't think it can turn around for him at UT. I am naturally a hopeful person and have a twinge of "guilt" even writing something that declarative.... but his history says it won't happen.
