2020 qb comparison/talk/debate (merged)

You see it that way because I defend him from false accusations. You on the other hand have your similarities when it comes to...... others. šŸ˜‰
I feel I’m pretty even handed. Don’t remember blaming any WR’s for intentionally sabotaging any of the candidates...like you have with Keyton. I also pay proper heed to what stats say about EVERY player...not say that completion percentage doesn’t count unless Maurer was in a proper frame of mind. It’s fascinating that throwing less int’s against better teams counts more than more against also rans. What you call ā€œfalse accusationsā€ sound suspiciously similar to game stats. 🤨

You have a subtle way to APPEAR that way. We’re you not in a heated debate with someone just the other day for being critical of HB as you often are? I think you were.

I have wondered about Keyton on more than one occasion. He’s a 4* receiver that seems to have forgotten how to catch. I’m sure he’s got more drops than receptions at this point. His deep drop vs UTC didn’t help in that department either.

Never said that comp % doesn’t matter. What I’ve said and will continue to say is when a qb is thrown to a top 10 team WITHOUT preparation it becomes a slanted negative stat and therefore he SHOULD NOT be held accountable by the fans because it by no means is any indication of skill. That’s being set up to fail. Huge difference. As a matter of fact, before you find your words to put me down, I challenge you to find ANY post where I challenged anyone that was fair. I’ll challenge someone that claims him a 47% passer because he’s been at 52% in games he was prepared for. I’ll challenge someone that says 2tds/5ints as if qbs don’t get credit for rushing yards or as if running across the goal line doesn’t count the same.

The ā€œset up to failā€ part sounds awfully conspiratorial...needs participants. Who’s got it out for your boy? As far as Bailey, that was a conversation you were drawn to because anything that makes any other QB on this roster look good is perceived as negative for your horse. Bailey was in a glorified exhibition game and balled out. I took issue with some going out of their way to make it look like he was playing against a janitorial all-star squad. He missed 4 passes against the state champions of Washington and piled up over 400 yards passing and 5 TD’s in barely a half. Maurer does that against air and you’re on here railing about FURTHER conspiracy. Of the two of us, only one trusts the coaches to make the right decision. The other will bank his QB coaching cred that the player who’s existence is the only reason for his presence on the board, is being hamstrung. butchna...team. 1Vol8...Maurer.

During the 2008 season the patriots missed Brady the whole season, they still finished 11-5, during the 2011 season the colts missed Manning the whole season, and they finished 2-14. Pretty eye opening I would say.

If I could add:
It’s fourth-and-two ...at New England’s own 19-yard-line. And, Belechick goes for it! The man who many consider one of, If not THE best defensive mind EVER, knows in his head and heart, that he (and his team) could not stop Mr. Manning.
Manning even remarked after the game that they had to burn a little time, so as not to score too soon. In other words, they respected Brady and the Patriots, however, the Patriots ..FEARED Manning!

Sorry dude..... maybe you don’t realize it but you’re partial to HB. That’s not the first time it’s happened and for some reason HB is THE ONLY one you come out of the woods to defend. So don’t try that crap. I know better. I’m just not as easily impressed as most I suppose. And once again, you ASSUME I’m only here for him simply because I’ve followed his career here. It’s extremely possible that people come to a place for the first time and learn they personally like it isn’t it? I became a Dallas Cowboy fan because of Emmitt. Does that make me a fly by night fan 23 years later? Get past the bs Butchna. You’re more creative than that. You can find another way to insult me.

If JG wins the job (and he’s the favorite for a good reason) I’ll be rooting for him to do well. I have history of that on this board. You do not. The only reason you’re on here is for Maurer and you don’t credit any success that isn’t his. You’re not objective in your analysis. The ONLY subject you pipe in on is Maurer. There was no YOU before Maurer and you won’t be on here objectively breaking down strengths/weaknesses of Christian Villeaux when Maurer is gone. Whereas you’d see me weighing in on Worley, Dobbs, Peterman, Dormady, Sheriron Jones, Will McBride and of course Guarantano, Chryst, Shrout and now Maurer since I joined the board. Can it with the ā€œc’monā€ debating technique. Whenever someone does your ā€œthis means that and that means thisā€ bull, I tend to call them out. All I ever advocate is that EVERYONE gets a fair shake and wins/doesn’t win the starting nod based on their merits. Since nothing we say on this board affects that process, I’m limited to arguing against the various contrived narratives that pop up from time to time. Maurer has as good a chance as anyone to be the future starter, but to intimate that he’s met any burden so far is simply bias.

It's really funny all the undefeated armchair coaches questioning our staff's QB decisions. With a full year in review here it's pretty clear they did the best with what they had on the roster. There's another thread on here where guys are doing the same thing about Georgia's past few seasons.

So I don’t have a history of rooting for JG? You obviously don’t know me as well as you think. I’ve never had a negative thing to say about JG and have OPENLY given him his due. So that’s just an entirely wrong statement.

You really need to do your homework on me if you think I don’t credit those that deserve it when they do. In fact the MANY times that Maurer HAS earned praise I’ve avoided the subject in an effort to NOT be the ā€œI told you soā€ guy. Might want to check up on that buddy.

Are you sure I won’t be on here breaking down qbs? šŸ¤”. Do you have any idea how many qb evaluations I do a year or which ones? I’m not sure you do. I may be staring at a stack on my desk right now for all you know.

And since you’re here obviously defending K town now, because he’s the only one I’ve ever said means something completely different than he does, I’m assuming you have about 100 others you need to attack in his honor so I’ll let you get to it. You’re going to be here a while since you’re so ā€œfairā€. šŸ˜‰

What I find funny is everyone on this board accepts anyone. We have Gator fans, UGA fans ext ext. yet YOU have a problem with me because I’m new🤨. Sounds like you got your priorities a bit mixed up there chief. I know this game as well as anyone on this board so don’t come at me as if I don’t contribute to what makes it as great as it is. Don’t like me.... tell freak to kick me out. Until then it’s his name on this board and I’ll promise if a board named Butchna ever pops up I’ll steer clear.

I don’t have a problem with you because you’re new. It’s because I believe that you’re who you claim and you bastardize that professional cred with your Maurer apologist shizz. Since you huffed and puffed about ā€œresearchā€ it’s surprisingly a well studied person such as yourself doesn’t know that K-Town and I have gone round and round on QBs dating back to the Torrance Gibson recruitment. That you take my open mindedness about JG as an alliance with K-Town shows the limits of your objectivity. I don’t remember ever doubting your professional credentials because I don’t, but the fact you’ve PROFESSIONALLY cited ā€œmoxieā€ as a measurable for Maurer is a big red flag...especially since he’s the only Vol QB you’ve assessed with that ā€œstatā€. You’ve done nothing to get kicked off the board and I’ve never suggested it. But you started this thread to argue even more about this endless debate, so it’s difficult to buy this aggrieved status you’re cultivating. You’re here to preach the Word of Maurer and when that gospel is gone...so are you. I too haven’t commented every time an opportunity on this subject was presented. I’ll try to get back to that.

I only said that because you literally took the ONE person that I’ve had that comment for (and will again because he only sees what he wants to see) and told me to stop. No can do with that kind of bias.

Idk where you got that I measure ā€moxieā€ because I may ONLY use that word when I read out loud so I’ll have to ask you to find a post of mine that said ANYTHING about moxie as a measurable. Moxie falls under leadership imo. Therefore I classify it as one. In fact I actually hate the word for some reason.

I started this thread for the exact reason I stated in the opening. We were clogging up threads that morphed into qb debate and I took notice of it. So far it’s worked pretty well and I’m sure there are quite a few that are thankful I did start this thread so they can read what they clicked on to read. That’s called Courtesy and respect for others.

I’m not here to preach the word of Maurer or anyone else. I’m here to talk offensive football overall and the qb position as a whole. Look back to the early responses and you’ll see me talking Manning, Brady, AR 12 ext ext. However I’ve coached many years. Teams and positional. So when I see a qb being publicly torn down, thrown to the wolves without prep then criticized for things beyond his control and so on I’ll have an opinion because that’s NOT cool. You have a problem with me because you’re reading too deep into my defense of him AND JTS. What you don’t know is Maurer knows his abilities. He’s spent his entire career making the services look completely incompetent in their ā€œevaluationsā€ and flying under the radar. I witnessed him beat the only 5* in attendance at the opening but politics took away what was rightfully his. So forgive me if when I see someone doubt him I say to myself ā€œ You have no ideaā€. I could easily sit back and just wait but that’s boring. He chose UT because they needed help. Not because they were winning (obviously). There’s a reason for that. But you’ll never see me defend a fair criticism of him. Sjt18 has criticized him plenty but he does it fair and I have great respect for him because of it.

It still pops up in every thread but noted. My first awareness of you was when we were both taking the eggheads to task on their methods. You brought up moxie and your measurement of such in Maurer in whichever thread Little made his guarantee that Bailey wouldn’t end up in this class because Maurer would lock down the job by the Florida game. There’s no public breakdown of your boy. Just Vols fans flying by their seats making predictions...which is a slightly less sophisticated version of what you do for Maurer.

Which raises questions. If you believe I am what I’ve tried to hide then why would you question my evaluation or comparison? And before you say it’s biased let me tell you the best QB I’ve ever evaluated is Justin Fields.

And I don’t mean that like everyone should agree with me either. Just asking

actually there is now. I posted my breakdown evaluation (un detailed) on this thread. If I’m not mistaken it’s quite 78?

Kind of convenient that Fields isn’t on this team. Why not Johnny Unitas?

JG played against those same teams and put up better numbers. You're free to look at the numbers they are easy to find. the fact you haven't looked at the numbers says a lot about your stance.

I look at points scored compared to amount of playing time and jg falls short. Like how many points did we score with jg in the game against Fla, Ga. bama, and sc for example. Look I just want the qb to play that gives us the best chance to win whoever that is. If it be jg or whoever. Go vols.
