If we had smoked Indiana like we were capable of, then I could have seen us sneak in the top 25. Therefore, I see us right outside of the top 25.

Here are the 18 P5 schools that are pretty much guaranteed to be ranked in the top 25 starting off next season

Clemson
Ohio State
Penn State
Michigan
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Iowa
Oklahoma
Baylor
Oregon
Utah
Georgia
Florida
LSU
Alabama
Auburn
A&M
Notre Dame

So that leaves 7 spots for the rest of P5 and the top G5 schools. I don’t think it would be shocking if Tennessee found itself in the 23-25 range.

Despite losing several highly talented Seniors, we still bring back a very experienced team with plenty of star power.

Next year's ranking is not only based on finish in 2019 season but also returning talent. I can see us being rated as high as 15 but I think 18-22 is where we start off.

Why? Doesn't make any sense. Charlotte is a cupcake. What do we prove by beating another team that we should beat? Nothing....

We would finish this season with a 7-1 record in final. Close in recruiting. If we light up Charlotte, I believe voters would put us in top 25 since we proved “Georgia Stating” was a fluke. Of course, I could see us being ranked going into Charlotte with people hoping we Georgia State it again.

I think we receive some votes but I’d say we will sit in 30-40 spot to start. I can see us finish in top 25 though if the young guys continue to develop and we get some stability at QB.

The only reason why I don’t think the media will put us in the Top 25 next season is the QB situation.

It’s still unknown at this point.

The hype train will get full steam ahead before September. It’s already started on Birmingham radio. I couldn’t believe how much they talked about us Friday.

The best thing about these pronouncements, is we will all see who nailed it and who didn't! Then there are those that can't be wrong, why, because they have it both ways, some what like the announcer saying, "They are either going to run it, or pass it next down...".

I think Tennessee will be ranked #20 to #25 in the 2020 Preseason College Football Polls that start to come out in March and April.
You make a very good point, everyone on this string may have a "favorite" preseason poll. We may not be talking about the same poll-it would be nice, if the OP would have included Which poll, and when. Example: CBS Poll, August 2020.

We will definitely be ranked to start the season. Six straight win and most pundits believe CJP has turned us around. I say we're 21st to begin. JMO.

Now that our season is officially over where do you guys see us in the Preseason polls for 2020?

- We haven't been ranked since the week of September 10, 2017
- Currently on a 6 game winning streak
- 16th ranked composite recruiting class (4 spots left to fill)

Key losses
WR: Marquez Callaway, Jauan Jennings, Tyler Byrd
TE: Dominick Wood-Anderson
OL: *Trey Smith
LB: Daniel Bituli, Darrell Taylor
DB: Nigel Warrior
LS: Riley Lovingood

I really, honestly, truly do not care what our preseason ranking is.

Unranked to start. Ranked after we beat OU. Probably be in and out of the top 25 throughout the season.

Although Oklahoma got the begeezus beat outta them by LSU, we barely got by Indiana. And we’re going to beat Oklahoma...in Norman? Gotta love the optimism

Yeah I may be a little optimistic but seeing the growth we have over the second half of the season I have to believe that will carry over thru the spring and they will be more focused in 2020. CJP and staff have shown that the freshman they are bringing in are capable of playing and contributing from day 1 so that helps us from a depth standpoint plus OU is losing some key starters in Lamb and Hurts.

It still may not be enough but I want to believe that we will be ready and give ourselves a chance to win. We’ll see in September.

I believe we'll be in the 21 to 25 range. I also believe the only positions we're going to possibly regress is at WR and lb. Honestly, our lb core could have youngsters step up and not miss a beat. I loved seeing JJ Peterson get the nod when Bituli got poked in the eye. That must mean JJ is making progress, Like we had all hoped for. JMO

If we are on the cusp of being ranked and get a win the first week of the season, I could see a couple teams ahead of us losing and us entering the top 25 before the OU game. Not to mention, it would be better for ratings if we were both ranked in the top 25 when we played. JMO

I just think we're setting ourselves up for the same ol Tennessee if we beat a cupcake and think we're back. The last time we had a preseason top 25 ranking it was an absolute embarrassment what happened. We were the laughing stock of college football. Until we earn it beating Oklahoma or one of the other big 3 on our schedule we're just fooling ourselves and not really worthy of it.

We will most likely have the same record or one W better next year, like I told people this year... do not get your hopes up. 2021 should be a nice year for us though. We just have too many question marks.

He's a senior at a very important position..

Any program who takes themselves seriously would never list a long snapper as a “key loss”. Period. End of story. I don’t care if they’re the best long snapper in school history, whatever that even means.

I also wouldn’t list Tyler B as a key loss. Again, who lists a 2nd string or 3rd stringer as a “key loss”. Absurd.

So you're saying we start with a win over a cupcake next season? Easy there!

I could see the media ranking us hoping we pull another Georgia State, but I could also see them waiting to rank us until we show we can beat that cupcake to open season

Exactly Correct! We'll start the season at 20. Move up a few spots to 17. The TV will have #17 TENNESSEE at #8 Oklahoma. Its all about the ratings!!!!!!!

Interesting observation, I'm having trouble finding it, but can you post how far in the rankings BYU moved up the charts because we were going to play them? I'm guessing 20 to 30 points, is that about right? What happens when two teams, both ranked in the top 25, are playing? Do they both move up a few spots, or, does just one move down a little to make it closer? In order to get all the votes tabulated correctly (those with a vote-getting them all on the same page) how is the "how to vote" order given, electronic, hand delivered paper or verbal via telephone? This should really put a scare in the fans, who'd have known so many of those with a vote, are not really voting, but rather signing on with a TV exec in order to pump-up ratings? I hope once this is uncovered, they are all fired, and never work in TV or sport reporting again. Thanks for the insight.
