Although Trevor Lawrence was committed to Tennessee, he is from Georgia.A lot of talent has left our state. Trevor Lawrence is probably the best example of all. The good news is our beautiful state which has been growing in population dramatically is now producing blue chip talent which bodes well for the future. The bad news is we need to give them a reason to stay. We have to just keep winning. Convince these kids they are not potentially harming their career choosing Knoxville. Then I think we can start getting back into that top tier of college football.
I think the lesson learned about Butch is that you can recruit the #1 class, but if you can't coach them it doesn't really matter. Once recruits see it, they go elsewhere. Thank God we got rid of him... All talk NO Walk.By my count 4 kids from the state of Tennessee were taken in the first 3 rounds. Tee Higgins, Van Jefferson, Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Jacob Phillips. Did I miss any?
None of these kids played in Knoxville thanks to Butch.![]()
He was recruited by Jones and committed to us in either his first or second year of high school.Trevor was born in Johnson City, Tennessee & grew up a Tennessee Vol fan even after he & his family moved to North Georgia. He attended games at UT and was not recruited by the Vols as he did not " fit their system " as did so many others who slipped through the fingers of the last few coaches !!! Maybe now we have a coach who utilizes the talent he brings in & is able to recruit talented players who want to be here !!! I like Pruitt, but am now cautious in my excitement until we vie on a regular basis for conference championships & are mentioned in most years as national champion contenders !!! GO VOLS !!!
