What did JG do vs top 25 teams??
What did he do vs team defense ranked above 75??
Thats where his stats come from poor defensive teams....ya wanna bash BM for struggling against UGA Bama. Go ahead ill take a cocky freshman/sophmore over an egotistical limited RS SR..
* long response. My apologies
It blows my mind but People seem to lose sight of the fact that BMs first starts were vs the best defenses in the country. On top of that he did it without the added benefit of an off season to prepare because that time was poured into JG. According to practice reports and our HCs word, he was supposed to be awful. But reading body language tells me otherwise.
Vs UGA Chaney put the ball in the air A LOT for a freshman qb making his first start vs such a team with a mere 2 weeks of practice. The result was a lead vs arguably the best defense in the nation.
Vs MSU Chaney mixed it up and used his legs as well as his arm.
Vs Bama he went back to his arm.
Vs UK Chaney put the ball in the air 19 times in his first action back with Maurer in under 9 minutes and only 8 times total with JG in a half.
Ever heard Pruitt tell the media about the positive plays Maurer makes in practice? Because all I’ve ever heard was negativity. Judging by Chaney’s play calling above I’d say he disagreed. Marquez Calloway certainly did when he was asked about Maurers play making abilities. His quote was “It doesn’t surprise any of us because he does that all the time in practice.” That’s not what WE heard.
When was the last time any of the assistant coaches were allowed to speak to the media? Seems to me the last time (unless I’ve missed one) was when CCW (our qb coach) was asked to explain the differences in each of our qbs. I believe his quote about Maurer was “I don’t like to put this kind of label on a young QBs but it fits. Brian has what I call the “it” factor.” That was a year ago. Very conflicting in comparison to JPs opinion.
Then you have the spring game. Chaney comes out after the half and tells the reporter he has nothing to say without the permission of his HC. Outside of a couple mistakes BM outperformed JG and moved the offense and Chaney had the look of someone displeased.
There seems to be more to the story to me that has nothing to do with talent. JG is more mature and maybe that’s it. Maybe JG and Pruitt have a stronger personal relationship so his leash is longer. Or maybe Pruitt made him a promise that he’ll do everything in his power to get him to the next level. Idk but what I do know is the events from last season don’t add up.
