2019 Wide Receivers

Undrafted then? Interesting.

Just because we want him to stay another season doesn’t mean we should downplay his abilities. Not saying you are doing that, but it’s a very common theme here.

I think KB is being fair. I'm a fan of Jennings, but 2nd and 3rd round picks don't disappear for weeks at a time at the receiver position. Regardless of who their qb is.

If you look at it, we're very top heavy at receiver. Doubtful that any of our 2019 sophmore receivers become contributors. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if all of them transferred this offseason.

Meanwhile, Tillman came from a run heavy offense and by all accounts is somewhat of a project. Means has a lot of physical tools but himself is a lower rated likely project.

You can see why the staff wants to take another receiver this recruiting cycle, and I think receiver ends up being a big priority next season.
Your statements seem to point out the nagging problem that I see. (other than the transfer thought)
Seems we have lots of guys but only one or two who could be "dominate". The rest seem to be only able to create "traffic congestion". Here again, better o-line play could help QB thus help receivers. (if they learn to run routes and catch the ball)

We just need someone other than JG to be throwing to them. That would be an immediate upgrade.

Jennings is a solid college receiver but lacks speed needed in the nfl. I see him as a late draft pick and making a team playing special teams. If he can learn to get better separation he could do better. Great motor. Another guy not coached up.
First I'm not arguing with you. There have been plenty of guys with less than top speed who have done well in the NFL. What they had was the ability to get open. If Jennings does a better job learning this, I think he can catch the ball well enough to make it.

2nd or early 3rd. Big body, great hands, and an attitude you can’t teach.

It never ceases to amaze me how many Vol fans look at players that have dramatically under-performed in college, and then they state that they should leave college to go pro early because they'll be a high draft pick. Jennings would be VERY lucky if he got drafted in the 5th round. He would be more likely to go undrafted.

Jennings reminds me of Treadwell out of Ole Miss a few years ago. His attitude and route running skills will get him a job in the NFL as a WR3 or 4. Don't think he will ever be a star because of his lack of speed, but that is not an attempt to knock him.

Our entire offense has dramatically underperformed the last 2 years.

I realize my view is very optimistic, but saying he’d go undrafted seems a bit harsh. It’s just a trend I see each season when NFL declarations begin. We hate on our marginal player that might leave because somehow that will convince them to stay for an additional season. Not saying you’re doing that though.

This reminds me of what everyone was saying about Golden Tate. Jennings reminds me of a slightly taller Tate (hands, toughness, intangibles)

Jennings is a very attractive player to a pro team. Yes he is a good tough WR, but he may be an even better special teams player!
They don't just throw scrubs out there for special teams in NFL. They scout for players with that added value.

Jennings will drafted and play for a long time because he will star on special teams and contribute as backup wr.

For the 100th time. The NFL isnt purely about speed as a WR. It's about route running and getting open and catching the ball. There have been a plethora of NFL WRs have really good careers and lack elite speed.

I hate it the kid Pruitt found last year (outside of Atlanta) flipped to Miami on signing day. He had some crazy measurables. We've definitely missed on some WRs the last couple of cycles. We desperately needed to add a big time receiver in this cycle.

FSU and he hates that he flipped too!

I thought for sure that Jennings & Calloway would leave for NFL
Plenty of talented UT players that under perform here but are coached up in NFL

Curious, what made you believe both would leave?

Both have talent but they aren't putting up big numbers. At the UT pro day, their abilities could be on show for scouts.
Stallworth & Kelly Washington make a so called pact to declare for NFL,together but Washington tricked him at last moment
If I felt confident that my numbers would not get better next year, I would leave college too. Example: Josh Malone

Speed isnt the most important thing about a WR
While that is true, wide receivers that go on to be high draft picks generally aren’t non-factors in their college careers. They usually are dominant at the college level. Jennings definitely has not been dominant.
