2019-2020 HC Searching Thread

Give me some names for who you think could be the next head football coach at Tennessee if Pruitt is fired. Since this is supposed to be "Fulmer's guy," I don't expect him to be fired this season unless we go 4-8 or worse(which is entirely plausible). I expect Fulmer would lead the next coaching search as well and would hire another coach with SEC experience. I would like to see a coach with head coaching experience as well. With all that being said, here are a few names I have compiled. Give me your thoughts.

Best case:

Mario Cristobal - Oregon (The vols could maybe sway him away with a large paycheck)
Mike Leach - Washington State (I don't know if Fulmer would like him)
Gus Malzahn - Auburn (If auburn goes 7-5 again
Mike Gundy - Oklahoma State (Do we ask him again?)
Dino Babers – Syracuse (Seems to have done a good job.)

A few other good options:
Matt Campbell – Iowa State (A little inconsistent but has pulled off some big upsets.)
Dana Holgerson – Houston (Had some good teams at West Virginia, just ask Tennessee last year.)
Josh Huepel – UCF (Looks like a good coach but may just be a product of his environment.)
Bronco Mendenhall – Virginia (Has built a pretty good program.)

The Dave Hart pick:
Mike Norvell – Memphis (Offensive-minded, looks good at times but still unproven.)

Fulmer guys:
Mel Tucker – Colorado (Was finalist for the job last time, looked impressive in season opener.)
Mike Locksley – Maryland (Has SEC experience, looked impressive in season opener, but would Fulmer want an offensive guy?)
Kevin Steele – Auburn DC (Also finalist for job last time but was terrible at Baylor.)
Dave Aranda – LSU DC (Basically the same person as Jeremy Pruitt.)

Do we ask them again?
Jeff Brohm - Purdue
Dave Doeren - North Carolina State

UT guys:
Tee Martin – Tennessee WR Coach (Duh)
Kacy Rodgers – Tampa Bay Buccaneers DL Coach (Received some recognition last coaching search.)
Jim Bob Cooter – New York Jets RB Coach (Would have best name in the SEC.)

A random assortment of names:
Mack Brown - North Carolina (Coached well on Saturday.)
Luke Fickell – Cincinatti (Worked out well last time we hired a Cincinatti coach.)
Bill Clark – UAB (Will beat us this season.)
Kevin Sumlin – Texas A&M (Was he rly that bad at Texas A&M?)
And finally…..
Will Muschamp – South Carolina (Will be looking for a job anyway.)
You forgot Hugh Freeze;)

I’m just afraid we will get beat next week and barely win against chatty and all hell is gonna break lose

I can assure you if Tennessee gets beat by BYU no one will have to wait until the Chattanooga game to see all heck breaking lose.

I honestly don’t even care for myself anymore. Just have a good coach with good players and a good program for my son who is 2 now, by the time he starts liking football. So let’s start the 2030-2031 coaching search thread. Oh wait our football program is gone? Well baseball it is

I want to see Pruitt finish season 2. Firing him now does nothing.
Firing him period would be stupid. He has essentially had 1 recruiting class. With the first class he has no time at all and one could say the gem of the class was Wood Anderson. No offense to him, he's a baller but who was Pruitt able to sign that anybody worth a **** actually wanted. Last class was good but it's one class. This isn't an over night fix.

Pruitt isn't getting fired..Although his press conferences, lax attitude, and the garbage he's run out on the field for 3 straight games should maybe have Fulmer doubting his hire.
I'd have Dino Babers on my short list if i had one. He's brash, kind of arrogant, gets more out of less. Just the kind of guy UT needs.

Plus, he already has a closet full of orange ties.

If Pruitt does get fired, we'll get an interim head coach till the end of the season. We don't need another Saban disciple; we need someone who has had success rebuilding dead programs. I say write a blank check to Mike Leach and beg him to come over here. I think he would be an awesome fit personality-wise and just the kind of thing we need after 5 years of Butch and 2 of stoic Pruitt.

Why does everyone think Leach would be the right coach? What about the young energetic Campbell from Iowa State?

Are you kidding? None of those guys would leave their gigs for lowly Tennessee. Aim lower, much, much lower.

$$$.

If you offer it, they will come. But, it would take something in the ballpark of Jimbo Fisher money to get them to even listen.

Matt Campbell would be my first choice, but I would be ecstatic with any of those guys.
