2019 #1 JUCO DT Savion Williams Commits to UT!!

Recruiting services devalue JUCO's a bit over HS players because they have less eligibility left and in general less upside as they're older and more likely to have reached they're physical maturity. DT is a position very few (read virtually none) incoming freshmen are physically ready to play. If you already have studs in the position (Alabama, Georgia, LSU) you can recruit higher rated HS players and hope they grow up to be players. When you're depleted at the position as Tennessee is, you're better off taking a guy like Williams who may not have the upside some of the HS kids do but most likely can give you some depth and play right away. So it is very possible that Williams may not have been a take for Georgia as they don't need immediate help and would rather take a HS kid with more potential and bet on the come; while for Tennessee this guy is a very good pick up as he has all the measurables and while he may never be all-SEC, he's giving the Vols game reps vs. Georgia State in the '19 schedule opener. Just my 2 cents

He was not. UGA had him on campus last weekend and encouraged him not to commit to Georgia.

If you can understand it, I have this to say to you UGA things:

Now you can't just talk to the fans of an "Almost" NC team like that. If you haven't heard they are the biggest, baddest, rootinest, tootinest, 5 star stacked, pile of glitter covered dog S**t this side of the Mississippi. With the team of unproven high school kids they have coming in they will likely play for the Galactic Championship in the Vader bowl this year. SHOW SOME RESPECT!

I'm sitting here reading that in Chevy Chase's voice from the scene in Christmas Vacation where he loses it.

And if you really believe that a major SEC power (at least in their own minds), like Gerogia, is going to disregard a JUCOs proven body of work and pass on recruiting said player based on a single subpar one off workout, then you will believe just about anyrhing

Georgia's fans are pouting like 6 year old children

We now have the same number of SECC as you, about to take the head to head series record lead from you in the first time seemingly forever this year, and UGA has never been this well positioned to win a natty or several in the years to come ever. Oh, and we were the most watched program in all if CFB last year (in terms of total viewership of all games), so it seems we are plenty relevant.

UT, meanwhile, has a losing record in SEC play this CENTURY, so who is relevant and who isn't? Besides, while 1980 indeed is a long time ago, at least we were in the game last year that came down to a final play in OT. 1998 also was a long time ago. Heck, current recruits weren't even born yet way back then, and if you go 3-5 or worse in the SEC this year, you will have a losing record in SEC play since last winning the title. Congrats.
If I ever spend one minute on an opponents forum, shoot me in the friggin head.

Despite being a 3 star. This guy is more SEC ready then any of the 4 and 5 star DTs coming out of HS. Watch his highlight tape, this guy is gonna be a force for us his first year. Plus he has 3 yrs of eligibility. Heck of a get for us. Go VOLS!!

AFAIK his offer to UGA was good. DT is where UGA has the least amount of depth because we've struck out there recently, besides Travon Walker this year. Can't get them all, congrats. Also, according to DawgNation he already camped, so whoever said he had to camp first is wrong. Nation's No. 1 junior college DT Savion Williams recaps his UGA visit

You know "Hush Puppies" are a form of Cornbread right!!? :)

Yeah, I figured using cornbread to tell them to shut up was the best way to do it. Using corndogs would have been too honorable for the immature slobbering dogs.

Geezus they're unbearable. Finally played for a Championship (since like 420 years ago or something like that) and now there's like 7 of them on every rivals boards claiming they never lose a recruit.
They like Vandy fans if they ever really won something. Except not as smart.
Not to mention our new coach is the one who got the recruiting train going while he was there. He made the changes and built the relationships that made these classes possible. Now he is doing the same thing here.

What I wondered. These recruiting weekends were for bbq’s and get togethers. Running a camp would be a guarantee for low attendance.

This kid is a beast. Quick off the ball. Good speed, both laterally and vertically. Good strength, though I would like him to get stronger for his size. Really good ball awareness. Appears to have a good motor. Finishes plays, plays till the whistle.

But best off all. love his attitude. He wants the ball carrier. And he knows how to get there.

Underrated at 3 stars. This is an awesome get.

He visited Georgia no more than two weeks ago, I have read and heard they need defensive lineman in multiple places. They have some good veterans but it is the one place they don't have much depth and Kirby's recruiting hasn't been so good, they would definitely take Williams. You Dawg fans need to pony up and admit you lost one. Hell, you've won plenty of other battles lately.

He camped on Friday. On Saturday, UGA had a “Reveal” of their new recruiting lounge or locker rooms or something at their stadium. They hosted lots of guys. Obviously happy to get the Savion but as for all the UGA bashing I might slow my role. The very last paragraph of that dognation article sounds like the coaches weren’t asking him to commit (politely). Note they did get 3 other commits on Sunday. Maybe just see who they end up taking before we make fun of them about missing on Williams (sorry to be the debbie downer)

All said, I like what he brings to the table and I don’t care how we got him. He’s a Vol and I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of impact he makes with Pruitt’s defense.

But out of those 30, a majority if not all are coming out of high school. This young mans being graded off of a year playing against real college athletes, whereas the other 30 are being graded off of what they did against the 195 pound guard they were demolishing in high school. It’s a completely different animal. If your looking at players solely off of rankings/ratings then you need to go pair up with butch jones.

I hear this same thing every year from guys talking about Jucos. From what I have seen, guys like Kamara and Newton who were highly regarded in HS and went thru the Juco route for whatever reason are used as examples to justify other athletes. The reality is almost all Juco players are there because they weren't good enough to even get into FCS schools. Then after a year or two of beating up on guys with very marginal or no talent, like me, they are suddenly the next coming. Let's take Alexis Johnson, an unranked HS player with virtually no offers. Went Juco, suddenly the number 1 DT. Did he blossom, that implies a guy who either grew into his body, never played before senior year and needed coaching, or received top coaching to improve. Did he do either? No. Same size, played football since 6th grade, and we know Juco has limited coaching, nutrition, S&C, and practices. And from what we've seen and garnered from his time in the hill, he isn't expected to do more than fill depth and a spot on the bench, all while holding down a scholarship for which he might play 6 to 8 games for. Why. He needed coaching, strength and conditioning, and his talent level is as it was coming from HS. He just isn't the level of an ranked top 5 DT coming out of HS. Who will have 5 years to play 4 and will most likely contribute 20 plus games during his time. Kongbo hasn't been the world shaker, saulsberry was terrible, for every 1 you get good, you get 6 or more who never contribute enough to make up for their short time and scholly they take up.

100 players every 4 years. 25 per class, hopefully keeping you around 85 limit. Every Juco guy changes that and reduces your capability to maintain that 85 number. If you take 4 per year, 16 total, that's your 85 limit pretty close. If all Jucos fail, you better hope all the others hit and stay all 4 years, which we know doesn't happen. Based on the percentage of 85 out of 100 you need to hit on, you basically need 21 every year to hit while losing 4, if 3 out of 4 Jucos fail which is below what the numbers say, and you hit 85 on the remaining HS players, you get 18 per year, 2 leave for academic, down to 16, 3 leave early or for greener pastures. Your at 13, times 4, leaving you with 52 guys, 23 short filled with 16 Jucos who mostly aren't producing, with 7 walk ons and grad transfers, plus whatever else. You have a large roster filled with non contributors. Comparing to Alabama and Georgia, we walk in short on depth and talent. We get beat in the long run.

I hope Pruitt doesn't continue this trend. I understand the desire and need to fill immediate slots, but it's a short term bandaid with long term paybacks that come due.

Goodnight and I'm sure many will tell me I'm crazy or stupid or whatever.
