112 in rushing tells the tell offensively. Not getting off the field on 3rd and 4th and red zone D tells that we just couldn't hold up inside defensively. The line of scrimmage was the main issue this year, but those defensive stats are better than i thought they would be. If only we had a better offense might of been a different story.

Some of these are garbage, "old school" stats. Not surprised, since it is an old school publication. Anyone above a high school degree knows gross yardage stats are highly skewed by tempo and playcalling decisions. YPP and efficiency stats are much better. Thus why most prefer s&p+ or FEI these days.

And yet nothing you mention changes the fact that Tennessee was terrible this year and showed almost zero improvement from last year.

Yeah well those stats you mention don't mean squat. Anyone above a high school degree? Who gives a **** about how many yards they had. How many times did they punch it in in the red zone? Those stats show we got pushed around if you have anything above a high school degree.

The glaring weakness on defense is the Red Zone Defense with only 10 teams in the country worse than us.

That should be an area of focus for improvement on defense.

The glaring weaknesses on offense are rushing offense (only 18 teams worse) and first down offense (with only 9 teams worse).

Those two areas should be a focus for improvement on offense.

At least we know what to work on to improve on both sides.

So was that the point of your thread, Captain Obvious? That we’re terrible?
Calm down Francis . Just some team stats to see where the team lined up in the country if anyone was curious. I was saddened to see not much changed from last year statistically outside of 1 extra win.

I wouldn't be shocked to find there's a correlation between the number of times we ran on first down and the dismal rank of offense on first down as it relates to rushing offense. Think about it. Passing yards per completion was better than all but 32 teams and passing efficiency wasn't that much worse, so passing it more on first down would improve first down offense. Strategically, it would also set up the run to improve overall rushing offense because they're expecting the pass. Those are the types of adjustments that can be made once you recognize the pattern.

What do you mean no improvement? The win column is all that matters remember? 5 is more than 4.

It's all good. It's obvious to anyone that looks at that. Where is Pruitt focusing his recruiting? At the LOS. We need to give the guy a little time. He looks like a guy that had absolutely no fun this year and this is why. He doesn't like getting his azz kicked and is a in your face guy that wants to be physical. Instead of some gimmick spread , razzle dazzle, twinkle toe BS that the kids love these days. I like the guy. He passed my test. I thought if he didn't blow a gasket this year he may be a keeper.

After seeing them in person Saturday I swear they look like a Conference USA team. It's going to take some time to get this fixed....Pruitt needs as many OL and DL as he can find .... and that's just the tip of the iceberg

So is this why Helton left? Did he not see any improvement next year coming?Huummmm.....
Until private messages are enabled on here, I think the best way for us to play it is simply to acknowledge he left because he got an opportunity to be a head coach.

Well that had to factor in Mr Inaccurate himself KC.
JG finished in the lower half of the SEC in almost every statistical category.

Versus the SEC, JG was 10th in completion %, 8th in TD passes, and 12th in yds per game.

KC was not the answer... but neither was JG. If he does not improve significantly, he won't be the starter next fall. They invested this year knowing his shortcomings and hoping he'd improve. Improvement was pretty minimal. In some areas, he regressed. I know your mancrush on JG won't let you see it... but trashing KC deserved or not will not make JG a good QB.

Really disappointed with the defensive stats, it’s really the main reason he was hired due to his prowess as a coordinator. If he doesn’t bring that to the table I am not sure what else he does. If our defense continues to suck with an inexperienced head coach then we will be repeating the coaching search in 3 years
