As if it there aren't enough perception problems around the coaching search. I wonder if the fact that the Vols will face wat will be the most challenging schedule of any team in recent years.
They open against West Virginia with Grier possibly a Heisman candidate. After a couple of alphabet scools, they face six weeks pH he!!.
They open the conference schedule with UF, which might be their best chance of a conference win til Vandy. Then we play the SEC's 3 best programs, Auburn, Georgia, and Bama in October.
Next we go to SC where based on their upward trend could be a top 15 team. We have KY at home, Charlotte, Missouri, and Vandy.
That should equal 3 definite wins. If we get a decent coach who works magic with the OL Kentucky and Vandy should be wins.
Other than that, barring a great coaching job and a few breaks I can't find another win. So I think a break even season is the best we can hope for. With a so-so coach and the injury trend continues we could be looking at 3 wins and another winless SEC record.
Rightly or wrongly Volnation has a rep for turning against coaches quickly. I can't help but think not a lot of Big time or up and comers will want to put themselves through the one two years of what Vols fans have shown they are willing to do if our expectations are not mey

All we need is a HC that can inspire our guys to out work the competition.

During structured work outa I feel they have all, but their free time was not used to get better.

Eat drink sleep football. And school work too.

You’re basically right. If we don’t find someone to fix the infallible hurry up and punt offense we will be lucky to win 3 games

Someone like Leach or Kiffin would steal a couple wins and have us in a bowl game. I’ll cheer for my team no matter who we get. This years team was a cure for insomnia. If we promote a DC, we better find a hotshot OC to go with him

Someone’s been picking up what I’ve been putting down...

Next year was going to be another losing season no matter who we hired. 2-3 year rebuild....minimum.

If you want to beat Saban you have to hire someone as good. Thats going to take at least 7 to 8 million. If you want to keep the cash cow football program we have then stay with the formula and hire a coordinator, winning head coach in lesser conference(Butch) or a losing head coach for lower pay.

No game can be counted as a win if we dont get a good proven head coach. We will lose the 2018 class and some of the locker room. Ready to set a new loss record?

A good HC and staff who can salvage this class (top 20-25) and have a great 2019 class can have us competing for a division title in 2019. Must salvage at least some of this class.

The school work should be classes like: football 101, tackling 300, blocking 300, catching 200, etc

Not enough time to restore the talent to the lines. Even with the talent, it takes time for the kids to mature. The QB position is up in the air. Right guy might make one of our QBs serviceable, but the WRs? Not seeing much to work with. Having said that it's the one spot a youngster can come in and make a difference. Best case...2 years, but we'd need a hire that actually succeeds. Given our history, I'm not optimistic. If it is a coordinator, it will take him some time to get comfortable being the head coach as well. Nah. UT football is middle of the SEC pack ffor the next few years....best case. Still better than last place like this year, but we've got miles and years to go before we are relevant again.

and thats if we get a good proven coach and not have a coordinator learning on the job.

Mizzou could be a toss up after they lost OC Heupel to UCF today. I now think their QB Lock is a lock to head to NFL.
