TVs rebuild could be put ahead of schedule if the draft is kind. I saw rounds 1 and 2 are tonight so the three names of our interest for tonight are Lingo, Guilbe, and Ornelas

Coach Rockers son will almost certainly be taken today. Big day for his family

I think the biggest question mark for the vols if Lingo, he’s only a sophomore and if he falls to the fourth or fifth round he might have enough incentive to come back for a year and try and move into the first to second range

My pick would be the Juco pitcher Ashby kid. We need a Friday night stud.

I feel pretty good about getting Ashby to campus. They didn’t make the juco World Series which is a very good thing for getting him to Knoxville. I think Crochet could be a legit Friday night guy next year, has all of the tools in the world he was just a little raw last year.

I'd argue making the World Series hurts a pitchers chances of being drafted in that borderline area of the draft where school and the draft are in limbo.

Being at the WS means a player can't go to any predraft workouts. Would be curious to know if Ashby has been to a number of those

Incoming Freshman on the 2018 MLB Official Draft Board: Ornelas, Guilbe, Pavolony, Knight, Parker, Sewell, Kohlhepp, English, Silseth, Pleasants, Ferguson, and Davis. When was the last recruiting class with this many draft picks. CTV living up to recruiter reputation.

The $ negation of those slot figures is fascinating to me.

Yeah, I figured the once a year debate about what round is too late and whether to go to school or sign with a club was coming. So I thought I'd put up the slots.

Yeah, I figured the once a year debate about what round is too late and whether to go to school or sign with a club was coming. So I thought I'd put up the slots.

The best way to put it is if anyone is drafted in the top 10 rounds they 99.99% have already agreed on a number or they wouldn't have been picked

Much of the intrigue for the Vols and Vitello in the draft will be on their impressive recruiting class. Vitello said he “has a really good feeling” that infielder Sean Guilbe and pitcher Mitchell Parker will be high draft picks and sign pro contracts. Guilbe is considered the No. 89 pro prospect by Perfect Game, while Parker is ranked No. 103.

Then there are a pair that Vitello thinks are in limbo between going pro or coming to Tennessee in shortstop Jonathan Ornelas and junior-college pitcher Aaron Ashby.

“Those are two guys that if they show up, this could get really fun in a hurry,” Vitello said. “But also they are ranked in the top 200, so they have a chance to not only get selected, but to get really good money to where they could sign.”

Vitello described both as late bloomers who could benefit from the experience of playing baseball in the SEC before going pro – a matter of time for both, he said.

What Vitello had to say about the draft, yesterday...
