2018 Midterm Election Thread

The master says "jump."

Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer on Wednesday urged the newly empowered House Democrats to pursue impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

"If you look at last night and you look at the popular vote, there was a referendum on the President, and he got crushed," Steyer told CNN in a telephone interview.

He said House Democrats must "stand up for the rule of law" and confront a "lawless" President who is a "threat to the American Constitution and the American people."

republicans did over Obamacare. -actual policy issue that effected a lot of Americans done behind closed door that made a problem worse.
over trumps tax returns -bishing and moaning that doesn't effect Americans in the slightest.

not an equal argument, at all.

Neither one had/has a viable endgame, it’s all theatrics. They’re equivalent.

I'm hoping Pelosi is not the speaker-- they say there's a chance.

In other news, Beto and Phil would have been so much cooler than Ted and Marsha.

You guys seem to have a hard time processing the concept that for many people whether they have two dollars more or two dollars less in their pocket each week is not the overriding determinant of if they are better off.
You don't mind being poor, have at it. I couldn't care less. Just get your ****ing hand out of my pocket, and for damned sure stop making me pay for YOUR life choices and mistakes.

I didn't choose to get septic shock and nearly die. I didn't choose to lose my right leg in the process and see my savings wiped out. I didn't choose to live on the edge of of bankruptcy because of the medical care needed to keep me alive and the rest of my body intact. My wife didn't choose it, either. Neither did my children.

I'm not going to debate the merits of the social safety net. I believe that if we were actually a charitable society and our churches did the right thing that we could happily do away with a huge chunk of government programs. What I've discovered working and worshipping with and ministering to the homeless and underserved these past four years is that it's is rare that they are where they are because of their own choices. As hard working and industrious as some of these people I work with are, they can't get back on track because of the obstacles we have put in their way.

I realize none of what I've said will make a difference in how you feel or think. Just know that the numbers of gleeful takers isn't as high as you think they are. Many of them want out and to be productive but can't. Our shared social safety net is all they've got, for good or for ill.

Wow, throttle back Clyde. I have zero problem with safety nets. I DO have a problem with safety nets becoming a way of life if the user of said net is able to walk away from it and chooses not to.

And I think you are wrong regarding charitable contributions vs government programs. I believe it was Palm Beach County that is home to some of the richest people in the country. When tax benefits of charitable contributions were reduced (under Zero I believe) the charitable contributions in that county dropped significantly. Now I know what you are going to say, so save it. It doesn't make them any less charitable because they aren't giving as much because the .gov is stealing more.

I am truly sorry that you had the problems you had, no one deserves that kind of thing, but regarding my argument with the socialist Nazi luther it has nothing to do with your kind of issue.

If the people that don't deserve government handouts didn't receive government handouts, there would be plenty of safety nets avaible for those that truly need them.

a viable end game as far as the republicans didn't have an even worse fix for ACA, sure. stopping it/repealing it was a viable end game. getting the democrats to compromise is a viable end game. finding out what was in it is a viable end game, sans vote.

resisting back policy is a viable end game. no matter who or what it is. tax returns that aren't going to tell anyone anything impeachment worthy has no benefit except resistance.
