A scheduling issue has caused the UMass Minutemen 2017 schedule to change. The trips to face SEC programs Tennessee and Mississippi State have flipped dates.

Originally, the Minutemen were scheduled to face off versus the Bulldogs in Starkville, Mississippi on September 23 and travel to Knoxville to face the Volunteers on November 4. Instead, Tennessee will host UMass in September and UMass will make its first ever trip to the Magnolia State in November.

While they will get a solid $1 million to travel to Knoxville, the payout is much less from Mississippi State. According to the Clarion Ledger, the Minutemen get less than $1 million for the two games combined.

That doesn't make much sense. It'll be a win regardless of when the game is played though.

I hate playing teams like this. Not even really fun to watch. Thank God the SEC channel is out, and games like this aren't on PPV anymore.

I belive this could have been stated a little more clearly. "get less than $1 million EACH for the two games combined

Games like this let starters pad their stats and backups get live game experience. The SEC has plenty of marque games so it's nice to have a game like this for a warm up game and where starters SHOULD be able to get some rest and recover during the season.
They are not that exciting usually and I understand not wanting to spend the $ for a game like this but it does have it's up side too.

Why do we schedule games like this? Who wants to spend the time and money to come to this?

Me. It's usually the only games I can afford and I like interacting with the other teams fans because they know they'll get beat but show up anyway to have fun at s football game.
