I see 9-3 with losses to LSU, Bama, Fla.

You will be surprised to see what Guarantamo, or even Dormady will be able to do.
Our D will be much improved because it is amazing what 3 or 4 capable DT's can do to turn a game around. Our secondary will also be much improved, even after losing an overrated Cam Sutton

Why will our secondary be improved?

There are a lot of tough games on the 2017 schedule, but at least they are spread out a little. It's not a gauntlet run like this season. Heck not having near as many injuries will instantly make us better. I'm glad we have the entire off season to prepare for GTech. I do not like that matchup with our defense. I could run for a 100 yards against us. But the first tackle would probably break me. Also, some good games at home where we can be a difference maker. UGA, LSU, etc.

I realistically see 8-9 wins on that schedule. But that's with JG being a stud and us improving a lot from what we have shown at the end of this season. If we play like youngsters and have no development of talent then I see 7-5. Honestly, it's hard to predict next season with so many unknowns. We may see a tweaked offense, different defense (hopefully), and coaching staff changes. Let's just hope they fix the issues on Rocky Top and fast!

I know I'll be there, I already renewed my season tickets for 2017 since I bought into the Sugar Bowl...

As I write this, there is not a single conference game that I feel 100% confident about winning. Not one. Missouri, Florida, and Georgia will all be improved. Vandy and UK are no longer pushovers (both going bowling) and both are likely to be at least as good if not better next year. Bama is a guaranteed loss. South Carolina? Butch has still never beaten Muschamp. LSU? Wild card. Could take a huge step forward or back under Orgeron.

This sucks.

It's now abundantly clear that Butch Jones won't be winning any championships at UT and he's now lost a good number of the Vol faithful.

How promising does 2017 look?

With the returning players the Vols have coming back, I can see a 4-5 win season, easily:eek:hmy:

Tennessee 2017 football schedule:
Sept. 4 (Mon.)
vs. Georgia Tech (Atlanta): Potential loss-rushing yards GT ?
Sept. 9
Indiana State: win
Sept. 16
at Florida: Potential Loss: freshman qb against strong defense
Sept. 23
UMass: win
Sept. 30
Georgia: Toss up.. Can defense stop Georgia rbs and qb ?
Oct. 7
Open
Oct. 14
South Carolina: Toss up.. can defense stop sc qb ?
Oct. 21
at Alabama: Loss
Oct. 28
at Kentucky: Toss up.. Can offense score enough points ?
Nov. 4
Southern Miss: Win
Nov. 11
at Missouri: Win, barely
Nov. 18
LSU: Loss
Nov. 25
Vanderbilt: Toss up. Will Jones be outcoached again ?

With the non returns at defensive end, running back, quarterback,
injuries pending at defensive tackle, no linebackers beside
Kirkland, horrible dbs returning, and at best average offensive
line, how does Tennessee win more than 8 wins.. My bet is
Tennessee goes 6 and 6...any prediction on season ticket renewals?

Until we actually get a good coach at Tennessee, we can get used to performing the above exercise year after year after year.

As the democrats say, this is our life for the next 4 years, possibly 8.

Screams 7-5 to me. We can't even count on beating bottom feeders anymore.

this is kind of where i am. i think 8-4 is the ceiling.

the 5 games that worry you obviously...FL, Bama, GA, LSU...and GT. their style is just hard to prepare for when you don't see it. the good news is it's first game, so you have plenty of time.

and even if we win 1 or 2 of those, as we've seen, you can't make assumptions anymore about the back half of the schedule. so, we'll 1 of those games that's a toss up or we're maybe not supposed to, and probably drop another one we're supposed to win.

a lot can change though...good and bad.

Has to win the east for sure and a ny6 bowl game.... I don't see it I'm expecting 5-7 next year

If he wins 8-9 regular season games but doesn't win the east nor make NY6 bowl, I still don't think he gets fired. I also don't think he's the right guy, but I don't think he gets fired after winning 8-9 regular season games.

i understand its only been a few days since the vandilization, but im curious as to how everyone feels about the future. i went in to this year thinking we could compete for the east and even bama, and now i feel very complacent, thinking that it may be 2018 at the earliest before excitement hits knoxville again. hangover affect, or do you folks think that some new faces on the staff, a bowl win and a good showing in april will produce some excitement again?
