2017 College Football Hot Seats

The one humorous thing about this conversation is that if Jones does get fired then many of those excusing him now will come down hard on him then. Their eyes will suddenly fly open to see how he "hurt" the program.

This is the same kinds of fans who talked about Hurd like he was a god.... until he got disillusioned and quit on Jones.

I think that most fans acknowledge what he has done to help the program. Most fans, including me, are not very optimistic as to what he will bring in the future and be provides plenty to be skeptical about.

As well most people liked Jalen Hurd, until he quit on the team.

IMO, these "all of you saying" and assuming you understand what people believe, are nothing more than attempts in invalid any argument that you don't agree with. That is a much easier route than acknowledging that the opposing view may have some validity and offering counter arguments that favor your opinion.

First we are not and probably never be alabama. Secondly they had championship teams before the bear. But a number of lackluster seasons. The twenty years before the Bear they won 61%, The years 1997-2007 Alabama was 53-61 for 46.5%. The difference was the Bear and Saban.

So the point is you go out and get a good coach and you win more games than your historic average? If that is your point, I completely and totally agree.

We should do that right now!

I've been accused of a lot of things.... but not providing counter arguments isn't one of them. :)

I see bashing players now? Team 121 doomed even before they take the field.

The only fans with forks and torches are the few of you on here who are obsessed by your hate towards a certain coach.

Where did he bash a player in his post?
You're a sensitive one aren't you?

Who are the three losses to?

Based on Butch's performance so far:

Certain loss : Bama
Likely losses : LSU, UF, UGA, SCjr
Tossup: GA Tech, Missoury, Vandy, Kentucky
Likely wins : Indiana St, UMass, Southern Miss

In other words, somewhere between 5-7 and 7-5 most likely next year.

As expected. If Butch didn't lose to South Carolina nor Vandy, he wouldn't even be in this discussion. No more second chances if he doesn't start winning next season.

I would hate it if we had to go into another coach search. But I agree, if Butch doesnt get it going next season, I think it would be best to replace him too.

Start winning...lol...you got Butch mixed up with Dooley. Butch is the winningest Tennessee coach since Phil Fullmer. Jones has won 29 games in less than four years on the job plus two bowl victories over B1G powerhouses. Even the great Doug Dickey or Johnny Majors didn't win 29 games in their first four years at UT.

Hate to admit it but I agree with you on this one.

9-3 with UF and Bama on the road, LSU at home, GT in Atlanta at Mizzou and UK and a new QB and the uncertainty of how many of our injured DL are going to return 100% healthy...7-5 will be good next year. In 2018 we should be back to challenge for a SEC title.

Iowa and northwestern big 10 powerhouses...lol

So next year is not our year?
The year after next is our year?
Awesome, cant wait.

Many have said CBJ will wait till fall camp to name the starter at QB to hold what we got. It may not be until fall camp that one steps to the front as the starter.

If we could just get healthy on the Oline were the guys could spent some time together as a unit rather than a revolving door of a squad.

As for the defense I remember back in the day when our youngsters would go in for a play and their number was called. They may not be ready to play as an every down player, but to go in and run a stunt to make a big play in a particular situation. Kind of like we expect a pass so sent in the sack specialists running a stunt against the front we expect. Send them in to run their play and then sub them back out for the next play.

I don't recall Butch down playing what was expected this year, he need to keep the expectations at the same level this year. If he is building what he said he is then once the expectation is at the highest level there is no way he should pull back and try to sell us on lowering the bar. It's time to keep slugging it out and maintain the highest of expectations. For me if he backs down then he isn't even bought into what he's been selling.

He is on thin ice and his seat is hot.

Get it together Butch.

That would be smart on his part with the QB situation.

I also like what he is doing loading up on d line finally with this class to start rotating guys up front more like I believe you're alluding too.

I just don't like their scheme on the offensive front. Reminds me too much of the slow blocking that Clawson tried in that it has the linemen on their heels instead of really attacking.

Going to find out how much of a fighter Jones is and how bad he really wants it this upcoming season because it won't get any easier as McElwain and Smart get their footing.

Terrific.

We have a better coach than Dooley and Kiffin.

Mighty impressive work by Jones just like knocking off "powerhouse" Iowa and Northwestern teams.

You may also want to learn to use the internet before spouting off comments about Dickey and Majors.

Dickey won 29 games his first 4 seasons without the benefit of a 12 game regular season and finished unranked twice in six seasons.

Majors only took 5 seasons to get to that 29 win plateau you deem in high regard as well. He was taking over a program in as bad or worse shape than Butch inherited plus he had the benefit of a National Championship that Jones hasn't come close to achieving.

Sweet, we are now Kentucky, withour good basketball. I dont know about you but im pumped for all these upcoming 7 win seasons.

Have you looked at our history as a program? We are basically an 8, 9 or 10 win team. 8-5, 9-4 or 10-3 seasons are really good records historically. CBJ is right there. Can he get us to the SECG is what will determine his future here will be. I just believe with a new AD, CBJ won't be fired for a 7 or 8 win season next year.

I don't think it will matter how much Butch wants it, it's gonna come down to QB play and what Shoop does with the defense.

I think our guys will embrace the grind and will be ready for 2017.

We are 12th all time in wins in college football and some one you are arguing that 8 wins is ok?? My how the times have changed, no wonder our athletics program is a laughing stock.

Dont care about the history of the program, as it relates to win potential of the current time. I care about the ability to win games.

Season 1. Should not have lost to Vandy
Season 2. Should not have lost to Florida, (UGA / Mizzu questionable so benefit goes to CBJ)
Season 3. Should not have lost to Oklahoma, Florida (Arkansas/ Alabama questionable so benefit goes to CBJ)
Season 4. Should not have lost to USC / Vandy (TAM questionable and clearly outmatched against Alabama so benefit goes to CBJ)

Trend I see is: CBJ can pull off a win he shouldnt win once every 3-4 years, (lone upset win being USC 2013) but will lose 1-2 games per year that he shouldn't. So the overall them is that there is no confidence CBJ will pull off an upset win and nealry a guarantee that he will be upset 1-2 times each year.

Only ones laughing are the administration that keep raking in the money from loyal fans. Been selling false hope for a while now, people keep buying it.
The only thing they'll ever understand is empty seats.

The saddest part in that whole article is that 82 of the 128 FBS teams make a bowl. I wish they would move to a 5 week 32-team playoff and scrap all these pointless bowl games. I know it will not happen, but wish it would.

No way man, bowl season is awesone. Make it where bowl eligible is 7-5 and apr is 6-6.

Everybody wins with bowls, advertisers, local community holding bowls, both university with revenue, the students get to play another game etc and of course those of us that enjoy watching.

Im enjoying watching Navy in a "meaningless bowl"...alot better than not watching Navy in a meaningless bowl.

Dont like them, dont watch..pretty simple.
