I still can't get over the idea that the elites thought Mitt Romney would be an effective messenger. They are just completely out of touch.

but I thought he wasn't a politician?

He lies on the campaign trail just to gin up support, but has no intention of following through on some or all of the things he's said to get ahead in the polls.

that's the definition of a politician

name one time tariff's have ever worked, Bush tried to put a tariff on steel, didn't work.

There used to be a tariff in Japanese cars, the Big 3 gave us crap like the Pinto and the Chevette.

I haven't liked either from the jump. Neither is qualified for the job. Neither of them have really laid out detailed plans or have had coherent messages so they're not any better than Trump. That being said, I'd love to see a Kasich/Rubio ticket out of the contenders we are stuck with.

Haven't we learned 1st term Senators make ****ty Presidents.

I'll be honest, I've taken it as an article of faith that they are bad (anything that restricts fair trade is bad) but that's probably an oversimplified view.

In one sense, free trade relies on all parties exercising it. When only one side does you have free riding and perhaps some level of restriction is actually positive.

Would like to see some analysis

Both laid out detailed plans months before Trump.

Of course, all the other candidates did, so there is that.

I had to look up the steel tariffs, it reads like it almost started a trade war. It also appears the WTO smacked us pretty hard with a fine - contributing to their failure. I guess you're right, if a super-sovereign organization like the WTO has the ability to impose hefty fines, why even consider tariffs.

Maybe Marco should get the begging for money off the initial page view of his website and instead of alphabetizing his issues (plan) he prioritizes them.

BTW his tax plan isn't revolutionary, pretty much same as we have now just fewer brackets.

I've always been a big believer in Friedman's free markets create competition and are good for the consumer as well. But I've come to realize there really isn't a level competitive playing field for labor and I'm concerned that we've destroyed ourselves with these free trade deals.

Yes, I'm nitpicking. As I've said before I have a real aversion to Senators running for POTUS and 1st termers would have to blow my socks off for me to get behind them. Rubio hasn't came close to wowing me and I just don't like Cruz.

It's not just labor its regulation on environment to safety also.

I haven't watched the Romney speech not sure I will but he is the last one to be bashing Trump. He is probably the person most responsible for Trump's rise to fame. Had he beaten Obama in 2012 we wouldn't even be talking about Donald Trump being the front-runner of the Republican field.

Not surprised. Self-funding a primary is one thing but I don't think even Trump could fund a general election campaign against the Democrats and the GOPe from the looks of it.

My FB feed is blowing up with positive reactions to this Romney speech. Rs, Ds, and independents. Seems like VN doesn't care for it as much?
