2016 Election

It's contrary to the fundamental beliefs of the Democratic Party , especially if you're a minority.
Absolutely. And it scares the hell out of them on one hand. On the other hand, they KNOW that their base will vote them in even if they KNOW that their candidate is a lying narcissist, or a socialist bent on the destruction of the country. As long as they get more free stuff and "get the rich" guys, it's all good.

It has nothing to do with being "allowed", whatever tf that means.

I don't fault anyone for making an honest dollar. Opportunistic isn't a bad thing.

Yes it is.

Opportunistic: exploiting chances offered by immediate circumstances without reference to a general plan or moral principle. Exploiting opportunities with little regard to principle or consequences

OK, maybe I am misreading your posts, but it seems that you are trashing the man for selling his books instead of bombarding us with political propaganda.

Where are you inferring this from?

At best you could say I've implied a critique that he is more about branding than winning POTUS, but that's far from "trashing him". He has to know he has a small chance of winning, but that there is lots to be gained either way. He's smart enough to understand this.

That's one definition. Let's not get into partially quoting wikipedias and dictionaries again, man.

"taking advantage of opportunities as they arise"

Carson is suspending his campaign for 2 weeks to do his book tour. It's funny to see the media & R establishment flip out over it. The guy is doing it his way and that's nice to see.

It's a technicality. His campaign can't pay for his expenses while on a book tour, giving speeches and signing books. His publisher can foot the bill. He'll still be campaigning, just not out of his campaign account. Smart.

"opportunistic" is not a term of endearment.

It takes a big man to admit when he is wrong. I am not a big man.

J/k...can anyone name the movie?

I'm surprised it's between 1-6 M for the books. More than I expected. Not the 27m quoted.

Book money can be so big. The guy who published the 9/11 hearings (public domain) made like $525k in profit or something like that.

My old econ professor had a book sell something like 10k units, which put him in the top 5% of authors (I think I'm remembering my figures accurately), so the top 1% (guys like Carson) are the ones who generate all the money for the big publishers.

Finished your quote.

I guess in the world of politics it is an inherently negative term. I didn't really mean it that way*. I meant it in the most literal sense of the word. You see opportunity and you seize it. I think it's a good quality as long as the opportunities are honest, which I have stated this is.

*Course, I am the guy who doesn't think greed is inherently bad.

I guess in the academic sense you are correct that it is not a bad word. I guess I am finding the liberal left vilification (not saying that you are any of those things) a bit tiresome. Sorry if I mischaracterized your posts.

It was a tiny dig*, but not a real critique. I don't fault him at all for this. I don't really care for his policies, but I think he is admirable.

*just in the sense that I implied he's not serious about winning

The retired John Hopkins neurosurgeon is winning the race of highest book sales, in either party. His book, One Nation: All that We Can do to Save America's Future, has sold 362,813 copies since its release in May 2014.

The closest contender is Hillary Clinton with her Hard Choices memoir, which has sold 264,000 copies since it hit shelves in June 2014.

LMFAO at HRC. This has to be embarrassing for her.

I'm wondering if "Mena" will come out before the elections and if they properly portray the clintons involvement in the scandal.

Who do you hope gets the nod for each party, and out of the realistic candidates, who would you vote for in 2016? What particular qualities are you looking for in a president that the last two have lacked? Just asking for some actual info because I'm not sure I could bring myself to vote for Jeb or Hillary at this point.

it does not matter who votes, it only matters who counts the votes, stop believing the lie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
