Marco Rubio favors keeping Social Security unchanged for those in or near retirement, but he would advocate strengthening the program for low-income seniors. In addition, Rubio would eliminate the provision that forces seniors to forfeit their benefits if they earn more than a threshold amount from working before reaching full retirement age.
You can be a conservative and have differing views on social security to neo-cons. Pretty much all British conservatives would agree with the Rubio policy you cited for example
I don't know what it means to be a conservative in Britain, but that's not what it means here. This has nothing to do with conservatism and everything to do with politics.
Are you saying his view is different from neo-cons?
If you want a perfect conservative candidate to tick all the boxes on your conservative checklist then it's unlikely you'll ever find a viable candidate that you'll like.
I like Kasich too, I'm sure you have many concerns about his 'conservative' history.
You need to realize that you can either have a slightly watered-down conservative who will get elected or a crazy lib in the White House.
Dude, you were a crazy lib 2 years ago.
I am saying he is not a true conservative. You are saying that doesn't matter. OK. I just want to make sure everybody who votes for him realizes he's not really conservative. Let's stop pretending. It's not "slightly" watered down conservatism, either.
Thomas Sowell was a communist, past beliefs mean squat.
Fine you can frame it that way. I would say that all GOP candidates are conservative in at least some aspects of their policy (although I can't speak on Carson because I have no idea of his policies). But I'd like to just push home the point that it's a simple choice: Hillary/Bernie or an individual that, at worst, is a moderate. It's really an easy choice.
