2016 Election Thread Part Deux

Doesn't mean dick this far from the election, a lot can and will happen before then including more terrorist activity.

If the best shot a candidate has is for there to be a huge terrorist attack or for his opponent to be imprisoned, the candidate probably sucks.

Pretty much anyone with a pulse should be able to win straight up against her. She has the charisma of a twig. The fact that Trump trails in every poll says a lot.

I'm sure he'll cut some programs like the Department of Education, but those are peanuts compared to the real fiscal nightmare affecting this nation. Entitlements? He seems solidly in favor. Military? He's in the peace through strength camp.

To me he's a mixed bag economically. His tax plan is fine if spending is dramatically reduced. Not sure where that's going to come from based on what he's said. Lowering the corporate rate is a very sound idea. I don't agree with his stance on trade, but I still think his current rhetoric may just be talk. Deporting 11 million people would probably have a far-reaching impact, but I'm not nearly well-versed enough in economics to make any conclusions on that front.

I think he sees the trade stuff like other business negotiations and practices. Of course something like a tariff is stupid in a strictly academic sense. But used as a short term negotiation tactic, maybe not. Think of how a business gets market share. In the short term, it makes no economic sense. In the long term...

How about all those younger voters who are feelin' the Bern? They don't strike me as motivated Hillary supporters if he is out...and that demographic tends to stay home anyway.

They're not motivated Hillary supporters. But I think a Trump nomination would bring them out in enough support of Clinton if she is the nominee.

The young that support Bernie do so largely out of emotion. Trump's rhetoric and speeches will elicit the kind that gets him defeated. The left has spent years fostering anger against the rich, business owners, and CEOs. Trump is a part of everything they hate. He will be viewed by the left as a living embodiment of everything that is wrong with America.

Clinton is no saint. She's probably worse than Trump. But that will never be portrayed to the public come election time.

You may be right, Deebs. I just think, overall, voters are motivated more by being for a candidate rather than against one. I'm trying to picture those spurned Bernie supporters rushing to the polls to stop Trump...and I don't see it. I think they will be just as likely to say FU to the whole process and stay home.

Nailed it Ernest, the Bern supporters will sit this one out and a certain percentage will vote for Trump when they realize they got shafted by a rigged process..

Highly doubt any Bernie supporters vote for Trump. More likely to vote against him.

There will be a few "**** the establishment" types that will vote for Trump, mostly for not being in bed with special interests. Most will probably stay home or suck it up and vote for Clinton. Or vote for the Greens or Libertarians.

My thoughts as well. Just don't see people in the masses showing up to vote Trump like 69 is saying.

That's if you believe the polls. When it comes to Hiliary I don't.

I'm guessing you're a Trump true believer, because people post poll numbers and you dismiss them as "meaning nothing", but you think you merely asserting Trump will destroy Clinton is some kind of gospel truth.

Hillary will drop like a rock when Trump starts on her. Bernie has done nothing to try to stop her. The press has done nothing.

And you think the press will do a damn thing in the general? You think the one person in this election more unpopular than Clinton for the general electorate is going to sway voters away from her with his bully, nah-nah routine that his supporters get a woody for?

Please.

Kind of sounds like he's hoping for one.....

Anybody here think Trump is willing to go Putin '99 to win this election? In other words, create a bunch of fake terrorist attacks in order to whip the masses into hysteria and come in as the guy who can defeat the "bad guys"?

Probably not. Unlike Putin, he couldn't get away with it even if he wanted, because he isn't deeply connected to our security services, but it probably will take some major unexpected cataclysm for him to win.

Forget about a Clinton indictment. Even if that happens, it still is unlikely to matter, as Bernie will still likely mop the floor with Trump. No, it's going to take a major terrorist attack, here on our own soil.

You all keep forgetting the extent to which Trump, if the nominee, is going to be exposed. Right now, you only hear mild grumbling out of Fox about his lack of specificity, and that's his logical home channel in a general.

In the debates, he could get by because he had a minute to answer, and the platitudes just sounded great because in that time he could just repeat the complaint the base has about how unresponsive DC is, how weak Obama is, etc. He'd get asked: "What will you do about the budget" and he could answer for 60 seconds, saying "Remember the good old days?" and get away with it.

In the general, he will have to provide detail. And he has none. Repeal and replace Obamacare -- with what? Tax reform -- how? Stronger defense -- in what way. Etc., etc.

You can fool the GOP base for 6 months with clever sayings, insults, and hats. But in the general, he can't get away with that. And unlike the nomination process, he will not be able to turn the crowd on the press in the general.

Its funny that you mention details and Obamacare in the same sentence.

I don't think Trump has that kind of pull.
