2016 Election Thread Part Deux

It's not the incident itself most people are upset about. It's the lack of acknowledgement from Trump and his little stooge Lewandoski that it even happened and instead resorted to name-calling. They're responsible for this mess.

Okay. I had only heard of this in passing the other day. My schedule has been pretty full the last few days, and I didn't know the particulars. The video seems to show very minor contact. I thought the notion that Trump doesn't take accountability for anything was implied. The man doesn't even need to ask God for forgiveness, because he doesn't make mistakes.

Speaking slightly out of my lane here, but battery is dependent on the legal definition in whatever State one happens to be in. Assault is sometimes interchanged, but mainly it's unwanted physical contact that injures.

I'll defer to CWV or LG on the technical definition though.

Typically a battery is an unlawful offensive touching, whereas an assault is threatening to do a battery. So if you punch a guy, that's battery. If you raise your fist like you might, that's assault.

You can do both in the same incident.

ICCL about Trump, Lewandoski or Ms. Fields. I find the charge itself laughable. On any given weekday the flow of NYC, Philly, Chicago, Toronto, London, LA, ATL, Houston, Miami, etc., etc., etc., downtown city sidewalks, buses, subway stairs and even platforms have more contact. Petty

Pretty much exactly what Garry Kasparov said.

What is your interpretation of the contact in the video?

The definition of Battery in Florida.

Honest question -- Is it defined by both statements, or one or the other? Is intentional bodily harm required, or is intentional touching without consent sufficient grounds? That would seem like tapping someone on the shoulder could warrant a battery charge.

If that's battery, then every parent in the country might as well hand their kids over to the state right now to avoid prosecution. My kids are tougher than this reporter. I see more physical contact every Sunday when church releases.

Trump should have saw this coming when the New York Times released the audio of it. All the people identified Trump's campaign manager. The he went on to say that he had never seen Fields in his entire life.

You're missing the point. The incident isn't the issue here - Fields herself said that this wouldn't have been a big deal if Lewandowski had just apologized. You know, being the bigger man and stuff. What happened? Deny, deny, deny. It didn't happen. Fields is a liar. Any other campaign's candidate would have had this resolved within minutes; Trump and Lewandowski resorted to slander and name-calling, and even strong-armed Breitbart into disowning its own reporter.

Trumpkins can't see the forest for the trees. When Clinton attacks Trump on this it will be well deserved - only Trump cultists think that this sort of behavior is acceptable.

If this is the best she's got, Trump wins in a landslide.

Fits right into the "war on women" narrative though.

Yep, and it works. It's a cumulative effect. I have a feeling the election numbers among women are going to be nasty for Trump. Even Republican women aren't going to like his unabashed defense of someone charged for committing battery, and then his doubling down once video comes out proving him wrong.

Oh I have no doubt it will be used. If I was Trump I'd run the video as simply say "sad day in America when you can get charged for this".

If I was a Trumpster it wouldn't effect my vote.

Looking at the video, if you were asked did an assault take place, what would you have said?

This thing is as ridiculous as the students getting their feelings hurt over a chalk sign. I don't think the Trump campaign covered anything up, if anything, the video proves there was no reason for the defendant to remember anything about the "altercation"

Assault? Probably not. It's hard to tell how rough the contact it was because there are differing angles, but if those bruises are real then I'm going to say it was more than a love tap - in which case it is battery by Florida law.

What kind of person immediately deflects to calling the accuser a liar when one of his subordinates is accused of battery or assault?

The defense has shifted from "he didn't touch her and doesn't even know who she is" to "well, it wasn't that hard". It has nothing to do with political correctness. Just honesty and integrity.
