There are some schools who still look at a commitment as such, both coach and player. Its rare, but still some who do. IMO that sort of change in recruiting has to be started by the coach. The recruits can't do it. Especially if the coach has proven to drop commitments in every class.

Could Butch go to something like that and make it work? I think so. Think about it. It's as simple as him not taking Hart, Okonya, and Marshall early. All three considered borderline SEC talent the day they were taken. Had Butch just waited on those 3, what I'd like to see recruiting wise is met. No negative articles. No recruits talking to USA today. Other schools not pointing out how Butch did it again to another kid.

2017 class has no commitments. Butch has a fresh slate. I'd like to see him be sure before taking a commitment then seeing those he takes through. When Butch shows he'll stick with his promise, so will those kids. As I've said. I'd set a no visit after committing rule. If a kid decides to take one, he's gone. If you have set rules and have followed through, there will be no negative backlash. Recruits would respect the process more imo.

We're close. I noticed Butch didn't drop a 3* WR to take Victor. Signs point to Butch wasn't willing to drop one of our 3* OL commits to take Dickerson. He didn't dump one to take Moss. I applaud those moves. Recruits and families notice these things. Butch was literally 3 moves from doing exactly what I'd like to see. The stakes are high, I agree. Butch is close to eliminating the negative stuff that's avoidable.

Great list. Thanks for putting in the effort on this, OP.

I do agree that "offers" may not be as meaningful as they once were. Difficult to quantify, unfortunately, but the level of recruitment by major programs is probably a better indicator. Are top schools putting a lot of effort into getting a recruit, or are they making an offer, and just passively sitting on the sidelines? I looked at finding a way to quantify "level of recruitment" by "strong programs" once, but couldn't find a simple way to do it.

The other issue is that recruitment drops off for some recruits once they commit. For instance, Nathan Niehaus was seeing a surge of interest after we offered him. Once he committed to UT, though, the other suitors pretty much gave up. O-line is a developmental position, which is a bit different than finding a super-freak athlete (a "scarce resource") at WR. Once schools knew they were long-shots to overtake UT, they might have simply decided their resources were better spent elsewhere.

Did they all have offers from all the schools listed or just interest? If they all had legit offers, I'd say we got some very good players... and some very good under the radar type players as well.

I appreciate the effort, and possibly there is a bit to glean from this..such as that a couple mid-tier rated guys had some impressive offer lists, but overall all that matters to me is that Butch and Co felt confident enough to offer and accept these players in a class with limited spaces.
