2016-2017 comparison by position...

I think that yes, stats from several individual will be hard to replace but it can be done as a collective. Maybe as a group the stats will be better at some positions than last year. Maybe Dobbs total touchdowns are replaced by more TDs from RBs and WRs together. Each season is different so maybe(and hopefully) this upcoming season will be better.
Full Disclosure: wins mean more to me than stats so I don't care how we win as long as we win. Never have put a lot of stock in stats.

for the life of me, I can't see anyone on there that can replace the production of 6 players we lost. Someone might, but haven't proved they can yet.

Malone's production?

Kamara/Hurds production?

Dobbs productions?

Barnetts production?

On Reeves-Maybin and Sutton, while out last year no one could replace their production so who will do it this year?

I think getting to 8 regular season wins is going to be dependent on a lot of people stepping up who have not yet done so.

Thanks for injecting some common sense and reality into the conversation Larry. We're losing approximately 75% of our offensive production and 65% of our defensive production. Ton of questions and unknowns on both sides of the ball. There's talent on team 121 for sure but most of it is either inexperienced/unproven or hasn't shown to be as good as its billing at this point.

TE - .... It also seems that TE will play a bigger role under Scott based on everything that I've read about it.

God I hope so, finally.

For some reason the coaches wouldn't listen to my pleads through the TV screen during the last two-three seasons.

As for who's playing DT and who's playing DE, there's this from Hyams...

Tennessee’s Jonathan Kongbo will play DE this spring. He has lost from almost 280 pounds to a chiseled 260. Played DT late last year

Bunch of guessing based on complete unknowns.
**** it, I'm in on the optimistic predictions.
Don't like it? Prove me wrong. Oh, that's right, you can't because it's meaningless predictions.

LB - Major upgrade. Kirkland, Bituli, Sapp, McDowell, Blakeley, Bryant, and Bates all will see upgrades. Remember, last years NFLer was absent 2/3 of season. TKjr in the mix? See note @ potential above.

If I'm not mistaken Bates is no longer with the team. Other than that this LB corps could be fun to watch!!
GO VOLS!!! GBO!!!!!

will the D line be better without Barnett this year ? it seemed to me he was sold totally on getting a sack, which isn't a bad thing at all,but cost them on the run plays

Our defense will be better without our best playmaker? The guy who led us in both sacks and tackles for loss? I wouldn't think so. Idea that he was selfish to the team's detriment last year is considerably overblown imo.

Malik Foreman is a bigger loss than has been mentioned.

i agree, to a point. he had moments in 2015 where he looked like he was really coming on, develomentally. i thought he'd be better in 2016 as a result. and at times he was. i definitlely think he got better, but he was still pretty inconsistent, on the whole.

no doubt he had some fairly big plays last season, both good and bad. has the huge pick against GA, then gives up the huge TD next possession. fairly solid tackler as he got older. not great ball skills.

as i think about it, you could say the same about Gaulden. i really thought he'd be a stud coming back fully healthy. good tackler, decent ball skills, but not a difference maker. Though, probably not entirely on him seeing as we had to play so much nickel due to our LB situation. he was asked to do things, that situationally, didn't always match up personnel wise.

i think Abernathy flashed, and i'm excited to see how he progresses with different coaching. there was a point early on last season that i thought 'wow this kid is gonna be great'.

It seems like Gaulden may be one of the "practice warrior type guy." He seems to disappear in games. We keep hearing how he is a heavy hitter, not seen many heavy hits attributed to hkm though. Eric Berry was a heavy hitter, seemed to display it in every game, Gaulden, not yet, hope it comes!

D Line would be my biggest concern. Couldn't think they wouldn't be a downgrade at this point. Lose Barnett, Shy and KMac have both been injury prone, Vickers is hurt as well and we don't have much depth. Not good

well like i said, Gaulden was asked to do things he probalby shouldn't have had to do, b/c we played so much nickel due to LB issues....forced to run 4-2-5 vs. 4-3.

he did have some big hits, and he did make some really good plays. but not the impact i thought he might have.

getting back to a true 4-3, and putting him a position to do what he's really meant to do may pay huge dividends .

and berry was a safety, not really an apples to apples comparison.

I expect them to be prepared and compete in each game. I don't know hom many wins they will get, but if they can find suitable replacements at QB, RB, WR, and CB, 8 or 9 wins is certainly achievable for this team.

I honestly don't think we move Byrd to CB. He's got talent at WR and we don't have many weapons coming back there. If we had as much depth in the receiver position as the last 2 seasons then I think they would have moved Byrd over.

Byrd is wasted at WR if he's going to be used as a down-field blocker on 75% of the plays. I'd rather see him at CB where he can really make an impact unless CBJ is modifying his offensive scheme to make better use of the WR corps in 2017.

You have to remember that missing a year of football will take some sharpness away... expect to see the "real" Gaulden this year and then we can cast judgement on him.

they had 30 sacks last year. 22.5 of them are no longer on the roster coming from the 3 departed DEs.

BTW, Barnett was the leading tackler of all the defensive lineman with 56. Vickers next at 38

no plans to move him. too many holes at WR
