2014 F Kevon Looney

He has the potential to be the best player to ever play at UT, besides Bernard King (don't know if we'll ever have a player better than him.)
This is a little blown out of proportion... If we land Looney he's likely a 1 and done and Allan Houston was a 4-year player. Scotty Hopson and Tobais Harris both had the potential to be UT great's. I'm just saying, I think we're a little over our heads here in terms of his prowess.

Tobias can still be a UT great depending on what he does in the NBA

Even if he is one and done he still has to play in the NBA, where he has the potential to be an all star. Top 2 is a stretch but top 5 for sure.

Allan Houston was a 4-year player in a generation where juniors leaving early was still rare for the time by comparison. I wouldn't look too far into the fact that he stayed four years. The guy averaged 20 ppg as a freshman in a time when college basketball was much more competitive because fewer of the really good players were leaving early. He was a stud who could play any guard position.

And I never said he couldn't. Scotty Hopson had as much if not more potential than Looney coming out of HS, why is there so much hype and expectation for Looney when we haven't even landed him? Seems a bit Vol-ish to me.

Look at Hopson's offer list and then look at Looney's, that's a good place to start.

Hop 6'5
Looney 6'9

I understand what your sayin, but two different types of player. Looney's skill set can come in and impact a team instantly. Hopson had to have that rainbow jumper falling or he was mediocre early. Hop was graded too highly out of high school.JMO How the evaluators didn't see a jumper that needed work, and handles that needed found I don't get. He was/is a heck of an athlete. taking nothing away....

You seem very pro 2* and anti-5*

When were after a guy like Reese you seem to love it and think he's gonna shock the world, we're after looney and were overhyping him.

Just my 2 cents

No it just gets under my skin that vol fans get really really hyped up about 5*s and think they're going automatically change the program, but as soon as we land a 2-3* they're automatically sh#$ unless proven different. I just try to get both sides of the story, there have been 2-3*s who have gone to NBA, where there have been 5*s who haven't. I'm sure some fans who aren't wearing orange glasses can agree.

So, you're just a common contrarian?

Other than his ability, I think landing Looney helps the program by establishing it as another 5* player destination, like Duke, UK, etc. It shows Hubbs wasn't just a one time fluke. We've got a legit HC.

Understandable... Just trying to keep everyone level headed, easier said than done probably. You look at Kentucky fans and they set national championship 40-0 expectations off landing 5 stars.

No not at all, we just haven't even landed the kid and we're talking about him being the next Allan Houston.

Gotta remember though, Allan was great, and didn't even have a head coach. Looney will have an advantage.

Stokes was a 5* too, so Looney would be his 3rd.

MSU Basketball Recruiting Round-Up (10/10/13) - The Only Colors.

"In better news, Michigan State is going to welcome a Top 10 national player on an official visit this weekend. Kevon Looney rearranged his schedule to visit East Lansing, apparently starting on Sunday. That's big and one of my major hesitations about Looney was that he hadn't yet setup time to come to East Lansing for an official. This still feels the same to me - I wouldn't bet much money on MSU but I think you'd be defeatist to diminish the possibility. Looney has talked about the attractiveness of playing closer to home and the importance of recruiting his parents and both of these might help Michigan State. Whether Reid Travis and Duke will have anything to do with Looney's decision is unclear. There's been some rumors that Coach K will only take one but I wouldn't bank on that. Looney would be a great addition to Michigan State and help reduce any anxieties about this recruiting class. The Wisconsin product possesses an inside-outside game that should allow him to play either forward position but his rebounding ability, size, and projected continued growth probably make him another "College 4, NBA 3" type of player. I wouldn't rule MSU out of this one when Looney announces later this month.

Found the bolded parts interesting. After the quotes about Martin hitting it off well with Looney's parents I say this could be really interesting. I say the distance factor isn't that important anymore seeing as who have been rumored the two leading schools.

I pray that Coach K only takes one and hopefully turns away Looney (foolish but possible).
