You'd know better than I would, I've only followed recruiting closely this past year. Why is it a different level of recruiting? Just because of proximity towards the school?

Right. Harris grew up in big east country, to be the southern school and go take him from Syracuse is very impressive. With looney he has grown up in Wisconsin and big10 land.

Tennessee isnt a national brand like a duke of UNC, it's a lot harder to recruit top talent nationally than regionally. That's why you look at our roster and it's mostly Georgia/Tennessee, or other southern states, much easier to recruit.

Re: Cliff Alexander (and Jaquan Lyle), Pastner's got them for Memphis Madness on 10/18. All we can ask for is a fair advantage.....

Come on now. Don't come here to stir the pot, and don't expect your wet blanket post to be met with open arms either. When Memphis fans post stuff like that, even under the purest of intentions, it is going to be greeted with discontent. Probably best to just let us have our pipe dream and worry about your own.

So neither UL nor UK pushed hard for Hopson? While he didn't hit the NBA lottery, he was a very good college player. Odd his in state schools wouldn't have seen the potential especially in light of the recruiting rankings. I don't ever recall him having any charicter issues that would have caused concern?

I understand why Lofton was overlooked by the KY big boys, but not Hopson.

Hopson committed early to Mississippi Mistake. He then opened his recruitment back up late. UK already had Darius Miller in the fold (similar player), and Gillespie didn't push hard, though he did "actively" recruit him. Tennessee had been in on him early when he committed to MSU and stayed in contact throughout.

He had offers from both UK and UofL.

Duke 247 said they have an update on his visit to Tennessee from gvx247, but I couldn't find anything on either board so I don't know.

A few weeks ago you mentioned a couple of other bigs that Duke was in on, that might deter Looney a little.iirc
Was that Okafor and Trey Lyles? Any idea when they are set to announce?

Reid Travis the PF that was offered not too long ago by Duke is on the same AAU team as Tyus Jones. Reid supposedly going to announce next week. I wouldnt be shocked him going to Duke. Will be more of an indicator where Jones is going. May help a lot with Looney

Addressing the rest of your question, we technically don't have another scholarship. Looney is being recruited with the assumption of attrition (Stokes leaves early, someone transfers, etc).

If we fail to land Looney, its not as if we are left with a giant hole to fill in terms of an unused scholarship. We would likely wait until spring to see if anyone emerges on the "big man" front, and also to see how fluid our scholarship situation is at the time.

Duke is definitely in on Okafor, but he and Looney don't play the same position. Reid Travis does, but I'm sure they'd much rather have Looney. Trey Lyles cut Duke from his list in July.

Agreed. I'd say we have a better chance at not picking up anyone else if Looney passes, but anything can happen.

Easy man, it was just a question. Why so defensive? By all reports the visit with Looney went well. No reason to be stand-offish about him.
