2014 F Kevon Looney

Looking on the Duke forum page nothing yet. Don't know how credible the site is but some are saying he'll commit. I doubt it but.

Yea he's set to visit September 6th weekend according to the Duke sites, but I haven't seem dates for his other visits. So I don't know if no dates have been set, if Duke is his order visit, or what the deal is with that.

I wouldnt be shocked for him to commit on his visit to Duke though.

Yeah on the comment section of the article I seen someone say I hope he doesn't take those other visits. So idk if they were posted. I searched his name on twitter nothing really came up about the visits. Ill keep digging.

Looney has lots of family in East TN. Could maybe play a factor in him coming to Tennessee.

Welcome to the board! You are right. He has family in the area and that is a selling point for him. He's just gonna be a tough pull any way you look at it though. If Martin can reel in a high profile, out of state (and GA) guy like Looney then things could get real serious concerning recruiting at UT in the future. Adding in-state guys is one thing, but national blue chippers would bring his recruiting prowess up several notches IMO.

If SMU can pick up Mudiay over Kentucky, I have faith we can get Looney over Duke. It's possible. Wasn't Kentucky the favorite until about 2 weeks ago?

This to an extent but SMU has Larry Brown for their coach and he is a pretty good recruiter plus he has alot of contacts in the pros he is selling kids on.

There's a few things that worked in SMU's favor that don't exist for Tennessee...

*SMU has a head coach that has won both a NBA title and NCAA title, Tennessee doesn't have a coach who's even been to a NCAA game.

*Mudiay is from Texas, and not too far away from SMU actually...Knoxville is a long way from Milwaukee for Looney.

*Mudiay has an older brother that SMU happened to extend an offer to as well, Kentucky did not...to the best of my knowledge no such relationship exists with Looney.

Comparing the 2 recruitments is very much apples to oranges IMO.

And some reports that Mudiay's family is really religious. And that also helped SMU. I will say they will be dangerous next year Keither Fraizer and possibly Mudiay's AAU teammate who is ranked fairly high could possibly go there.

I think SMU is still a season away from making any waves. They bring in Frazier and a decent Juco, but return a really really terrible team aside from them. 2014-2015 may be the year that they can jump up and crack the top 25 though.

Larry Brown had another advantage over Cal- he helped start Cal's career. All Brown had to say was that Cal was his assistant for Cal's first job at Kansas. Mentor won this one.

SMU is a good school. I was born in the Dallas area and still have some fondness toward it. It is in a beautiful area. The Death Penalty really put the athletics back for quite some time. If they could win on a consistent basis, the money there is limitless.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I think Mudiay may really open the door with recruits. Not saying they're start getting 5 stars but good talent will come.

As of now we anticipate that five-star forward Kevon Looney from Milwaukee, the No. 11 overall player in the nation will be in town the weekend of Sept. 20 & 21. Obviously, that's a non-football weekend with the Vols' on the road in Gainesville, but from what we've heard that's in no way a negative in regards to the visit. The Vols main competition here appears to be Duke, with Michigan State also remaining very much in the picture.

Hmmm Ill take it. I think it can be a more focused visit. I wish it was when a big game was but this might be the right type of visit.

Definitely has its pros and cons...I'm guessing his family has been to neyland seeing as they're from east tn, so they know what the fan base is about. As you said this may ultimately let them focus on just basketball, could work out.

That's my thinking, also Looney isn't the big flashy focus on me type of player. So just show him the love and go from there.
