solid rankings all but Reese. He did have to play out of position and came up big a couple lf times but overall I thought he was selfish and out of control too much. I wish we had the depth to bury him on the bench but we dont. I think WC and Owens both are better players by next year
He was one of the least selfish guys out there. Donnie told him to shoot if he had an open shot and to be confident when he shoots. I don't think a lot of you understand Reese is a SG that had to guard the C position, arguably the SEC's greatest strength. Reese played Bobby Portis really well when Arkansas came to TBA and was a key part in our upset.

Reese plays his damn heart out in practice and when he's on the court. Thats missing in today's game. His hustle and heart make up for his lack of athleticism and size (weight wize).

Doesn't deserve the criticism he gets. He's a good person and gives his all for Tennessee.

Reese should be commended for his dedication and hard work. Seems like a great kid and reps UT well afaik.

But, his hustle and heart do NOT make up for his lack of athleticism/size. Derek Reese is a below average SEC basketball player. As long as we have to lean on talent like him and most others on our roster, then we aint gonna ever win SEC Championships, nor will we get to a Final Four or win a national title. It takes better talent than that. I don't care if Phil Jackson takes over the program.

While I like Reese (and others on our team), the only "elite" player on our team is JR. If being a .500 team every year, and upsetting a high ranked team once in a blue moon is your goal, then yeah Reese is "good enough".

If winning championships is the goal, then we'll have to upgrade.

I disagree. A lot of his horrible shot selection probably does fall on CDT though so maybe selfish was the wrong word to use. And I did say he came up big in a couple of games. I still don't think he's a good basketball player. Does it matter what position he is? I understand he gave up a lot of weight against a majority of teams but he'd likely not see any kind of significant minutes at the 2 spot on any other SEC team. His ball handling skills are horrible, shot selection is horrible and his first step is incredibly slow. I'm honestly not dogging the kid because we were so undermanned this seasom that we did need him and he did play hard. I'm just saying....he's not a very good basketball player.
